Why do Gus and everyone else love him so much? Why is he a 79 OVR in Madden? Why is there no rumblings anywhere about him losing his job? Why is he starring in Jag commercials?

The point is the guy is just average.  He was drafted with the 1st pick of the 2nd round (33rd) overall and just a guy.  He often takes bad angles and misses tackles.  Ideally you want a guy in the backfield you know will make a crucial tackle and save your team.  Cyprien has not proven he can be that guy

Cyp has flashed too. It's not fair to write him off but keep wanting to give Joeckel time.
He is much better in mam to man coverage than he is zone

Both of these players will get this year to really prove it.  The Joke maybe getting replaced next season if he does not get his game together.  Cyprien has not yet shown he can be a dominant safety in this league.  In Gus Bradley's Defense you need a dominant enforcer back there.  Cyprien has a long ways to go.

You're using a Madden rating as part of your argument? C'mon man.

I'm just saying. He's praised all over the board everywhere. It's only a handful of fans who act like his job is in jeopardy.
There comes a time when you have to see something on the field. Go look at Bells first long run last week. I hope that isnt a sign of things to come. But we saw it last yr also.

Because some fans view things too subjectively and can't see the total picture.

They tend to make snap judgements, both good and bad, and then let that bias dictate their future perceptions.

People with no emotional ties with the team can notice both good and bad and can also notice the direction someone is trending. They aren't subject to the emotional attachment that can skew their perception one way or the other.

Some fans were expecting Cyprien to be an immediate star and when he had his share of youthful struggles, developed a negative perception. They only remember the bad plays. They fail to remember, or even notice at the time when it was being recognized by objective outside observers, that Cyprien finished last season with back to back to back best games of his career and was looking every bit the player everyone was expecting when he was drafted.

Some fans were too skewed in their negative perception that they failed to notice how the bad angles went away and he was laying some disruptive wood towards the end of the season. That is what the outsiders noticed. They saw a guy that looked like the light may have just turned on for him.

Welcome to the Jungle. They're called the Usual Suspects for a reason.

1. Because he is, by all accounts, a hard-working player who's well-liked in the locker room, and his arrow is still pointing up now that he has more competent players around him.

2. A Madden rating? Really?

3. Because even though he's just an average safety at this point, he's still (by far) the best safety on the team unless/until Brown or Sample prove otherwise.

4. Because he's a high-profile player. High-profile players get commercials.
He is not terrible. He is not particularly good either. He is also still young and can improve.

Personally I think tinker should get a commercial.

Hey! He made a tackle on that play. Sure, it was Dan Skuta that he tackled, but it was a tackle nonetheless.

This thread lost all credibility when you cited Madden ratings as part of your questioning of a player's real-life skill.

Cyp also gets a little attention across the league/media outside of Jax, being seen as a solid young safety with potential. As has already been said on this thread, he's proven at the very least to be a capable/average safety.
I want Cyp to be good but receivers running wide open 25 yards over the middle of the field can't happen.  I want to see what Loston does tomorrow night.

He led the team in tackles (combo, solo, assisted) he was the main reason we were beating the eagles week 1 until he got that concussion. The main knock on him like all our DBS is the lack of interceptions. Instead on commenting on why Cyp is this or why Cyp is that let's worry about why be is the leader in tackles on a team, which is concerning and assuring. Assuring that we have a sure tackler at safety but to have the most tackles at safety shows that offense were able to break the first and second lines of defense. That is all.
Call me crazy but Cyp is a better version of Chancellor. He gets more tackles than Chancellor. All he needs to do is nab at least 2 picks and that's an easy Pro Bowl status at SS. But the fact that Kam is on the Legion of Boom he gets more exposure. Cyp beat out Kam 114 tackles to 78 tackles. Let's not panic......yet.
