Is the healthy and improved Toby Gerhart legit? Or is this just a pre season tease? Before answering note I am not saying he is going to be any type of franchise back.

But I think he really looked capable tonight of being that tough move the pile 4-5 yard per carry runner we have been hearing about. Maybe Fisch not running stretch plays with him all the time was just what he needed. Could be huge for us if we really do have three good backs. The shiftynes and speed of drob, the vision of Yeldon, and the downhill physical nature of Toby...

What does everyone think after watching him tonight?
He's a nice change of pace for sure.Pitts defense was trying to stop the fast Drob, then toby comes in and runs very physical. His screen pass that went for 19 was real nice also

Watching him push the pile and pick up those tough yards is all I want from him. I liked what we seen tonight from him.

He looked really solid. It was only pre-season though, and I'm not going to change my mind about him after a couple solid runs. He ran into too many people last year to be in the clear. It was ridiculous how many times he'd aim right for the line of scrimmage pile and gain negative yards because of it.

He looked solid tonight I hope to see him keep it up and improve
This is the way he has played when healthy his entire career.

I think what we saw tonight will be the Toby we'll get in season barring injury. What we saw tonight wasn't much different from how he played in Minnesota and the last couple games of last season once he got over that ankle injury. He's a good change of pace back who works well in pass protection and can catch a few screen passes.

I like Toby but he tends to lower his head right into the small of the back of the O line maybe this year the line will open the holes and he wont beat up the line from behind

Exactly.  He was injured in the first game last year and dealt with the ramification for the entire year.  If he stays healthy, he'll be an important part of the offense this year.
He looks like what I thought he would look like last year. Hope he stays healthy and contributes.

He was great catching the ball out of the backfield in Minnesota and it appears Olson may give him a chance to do that some here. That screen last night was textbook stuff.  I'd like to see him carve out a role getting 6-8 touches per games with Denard and Yeldon splitting the lion's share.
He looked like a Gerhorse last night.. Will that continue? No idea..

I like having Alualu block for Toby to pick up short yardage occasionally.

I think with no injury he is certainly better but need to see him in regular season game where teams will scheme for oor Oline blocking then we will know how much everyone on O has improved

I think that will be the plan. And as long as they stay healthy, I think it will work well.

I'm going to hold off on Yeldon at this time until I see him play in an actual game.  I was certainly encouraged with what I saw out of Toby.  Is he "feature back" material?  That remains to be seen.
Sloby Gerfart is turrible, just ask all the people attacking Luke Joeckel  today.

It was the first pile he moved since his time in Minnesota

That's not surprising considering he hasn't really been healthy or been playing behind a decent oline since his time in Minnesota.
I like what I saw last night.

Nothing would make me more happy than to come on here in November and say I was wrong about him.

I reckon he is our third down and goalline back this year probably cut next

Solid in pass pro and a knack for getting big yards off screens

Either way 3 backs that can move the ball is a great problem to have
