It's important to not take anything from preseason performances.

The 08 Lions went 4-0 in their pre-season...

A few years ago, Colt McCoy slung it out with Aaron Rodgers and seemed to get the better of him.

Pre-season is nothing more than to see who will make those final roster cuts; the guys that will be buried on the depth chart.

Oh it's been found. In fact, i've found it time and time again Wink

OHHHH YEAAAHHHHHH!!!
Quote:People, if we don't perform well against the Steelers next Friday, don't be surprised.

Based off the past few years, they are the better team.

They have been practicing at least a week ahead of the Jaguars, since they are in the Hall of Fame game tonight.

They will have already played their first game, while the Jaguars just had their scrimmage.

On top of that...IT's JUST PRESEASON!!!!!

Please tell yourselves that all week.

Stand in front of a mirror and chant it to yourself.

Write 100 sentences "I will not overreact to preseason."

Have it tattooed somewhere on your body.

Put a daily reminder on your cell phone.

The team will not gameplan.  The starters won't be in very long.

I know I'm probably spitting into the wind here, but I am hoping for perspective.

I never look at the score of a preseason game but I do put a lot of weight on the first half especially the first qtr of preseason as it usually features both teams (predicted) starters and while a lot of coaches play very vanilla some do not.
Quote:Wow, ten games are cheaper than three? I just got my tickets to the Bucs/Jags game, so I'll be there. Unless there's a three and out in this upcoming preseason game, then it's off the Skyway I go.

Well it's about on par with 4 games. $350 for the season. They usually are about $80 per game so with our three and usually hit the Bucs/Panthers game (friends teams) we'd be looking around $320

You need to make a distinction. You absolutely can take some things from the preseason, but it isn't anything to do with the final scores or winning the games, it's all about evaluating players on a fundamental level. Guys who can't block in the preseason definitely won't be able to block during the regular season. QBs that can't read what the defensive alignment and coverages are during the preseason definitely won't be able to do so during the regular season. WRs that can't get any separation during the preseason definitely won't be able to get separation during the regular season. Kickers that can't hit field goals or get the ball into the end zone on kickoffs won't be able to do it during the regular season, either. It's all about evaluation of player abilities.

That is really funny.  Do you sell the tickets you don't go to?

Probably. This is the first year we bought the STs bc of how the schedule worked out, but I don't think I can sit through 8 games of Buccaneers football lol

I'll probably end up essentially going to those 4 games for free if I sell off the other ones lol
I'm saving my panic attack for bortles first pick of the season gotta peak at the right time Smile
The score doesn't matter.  I don't want to see our 1st team offense or defense get mauled or anything, but wouldn't panic if it happened.  We're still installing the offense and though I think our D is good, the Steelers have some outstanding skill players on O.

What I'm really anxious to see are the 2nd and 3rd tier players who are having strong camps.   WRs Benn and Washington.  RB Pierce, the backup OL, The 3rd and 4th TE.  Jeremiah George, Michael Bennett.  The 2nd tier guys at S and CB.  They should get extensive PT and we'll see who stands out.

The thing I am most interested in watching is how well the offensive line plays in the first half with the starters, and of course with the 1st round pick out due to injury all eyes will be on the 2nd round pick TJ Yeldon to see how great he can play.

I am really hoping to see RB Corey Grant get a chance to shine, and I want to see how good the starting DBs play together.

I do expect that the Steelers will win this game, but if we see the rookies learning & nobody gets injured than its win in my book.

Bump all that. I want all wins. Wins wins wins. Lets go into the season with wins.

Wins that dont count.......

Actually, the take should have been from the opposite perspective ......

IF WE LOOK GOOD

DON'T GET TOO EXCITED

IT'S JUST PRESEASON.

....... i slightly recall everyone thinking we were on the rise last year after our initial preseason game vs Tampa Bay.

I agree with all that, except, you can't predict who is going to win a preseason game, when winning and losing is going to be determined by guys who will be bagging groceries this fall.
I would NOT be surprised if we do WELL. We usually do decent in preseason, but when real games start... not good.

Dagnabbit

I will have FULL CONSISTENCY.

Wait, I can see the pools from top of Wells Fargo.

Hmmmmm.  Nevermind

I'd prefer the kind that don't count in preseason over the ones that lead to Manning and Luck on the other side of the field.

This team needs practice winning..  and our first team should stay on the field more than the average too.

The value in preseason is seeing how players fare and getting some experience against legitimate competition.

Our first team can get all the practice they need against scrubs during the week. There is no value in adding additional injury risk by going against someone else's scrubs.
Yeah, it's much better if they get hurt in a real game.

At least they would be getting injured contributing to a real win.
