Quote:Left tackle is probably the second most important position on an offense when you factor in how diffificult it is to find one. We found a young one and had him on a good contract. If run blocking is that important, fix the other 3 positions on the oline that arent even remotely as good as Beachum at anything.
Literally everyone on this board has been talking about fixing the guards and right tackle. WE ALL SEE IT. Wanna trade house and Thomas? Do it for a [BAD WORD REMOVED] starting guard or a new right tackle. Dont do it for position we already had locked up and not for a 32 year old.
Exactly..
Great, we got the senile version of Coughlin.
Resigning Luke Joeckel in 3..2...1...

Even better, Josh Wells
Ugh this team... I don't get it but then again what has made sense in the past decade.

A lot of things make sense if you pay attention and think about what is going on.
Quote:That is the right tackle's job. Beachum's main responsibility was pass blocking.
its the RT main job if we run a play call to the left?

Left guard's job
He would've been due over 20 million if it was picked up even you add in the guaranteed money. No way he's worth that

Where did you get that number from?

and that would be over 4 years for 5 million a year...he's not worth that?

No about 18 is guaranteed once picked up and the cap hit in addition to that for 2017 is about 6 Mil, so over 20 mil he would've gotten up front so seeing that i could see why it won't be picked up and probably would just be offering a different deal. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still in consideration even if we get Albert because Albert has played guard And RT

Again, where are you getting the number 20 million? The total salary for four years would have been $35 million.

i said over 20 in his first year which includes the guaranteed money. Its front loaded. The rest of the 35 would be collected in the remaining years
All I know is that Beachum was playing lights out in pass protection this past season and will only be better this upcoming season as he's further removed from the ACL. His youth is also an asset as he's good to go in this league for several more years.
With that known, why are they moving on? Did he have an ACL set-back we don't now about like when they moved on from Boselli only to see him not play a down for the Texans? Or is it they are simply insisting on more beef up front given their new found focus on the run game? I'm guessing it's the latter.
I'm not all that sold on the old, injury prone OT from the Dolphins, but if he's truly a mauler in the run game and actually does stay healthy, he could be just what the offense needs. That said, it does concern me that PFF grades him even lower than Beachum suggesting with all things taken into account that he's not even as good in pass protection. In other words, we're sacrificing the future to win now, and sacrificing the QB's health in order to run more now, and we're doing this while relying on a known medical risk.
TC knows best tho.

I dont think he was lights out but he was solid, and like you said hes not even fully recovered from the ACL and young.
Is that worth sacrificing for run blocking? Of course not. There is really no feasible explanation for this aside from something we dont know about like his knee. If the run blocking is such a concern upgrade all the other positions on the line first instead of downgrading the most difficult position on the line to find. This is seriously a baffling move. Im not trusting tom for [BLEEP] i dont care how many superbowls he has.

it being front loaded only makes it more appealing. We can pay him the majority of his money now and then have the space to resign rookies later without his hit getting in the way.
The only excuses they have for this is Beachums knee is messed up and we dont know, or Kelvin straight up told them he doesnt want to be here.
Or they feel Albert is better
Wouldn't be surprised if Coughlin doesn't want the Beachum because he's the smallest tackle in the league. Him and his OLine coach have almost always had tackles 6'5 or 6'6.
Hopefully the failure that is Ereck Flowers will keep Tom from reaching for another LT that doesn't belong anywhere near that high this time around.
