Quote:Hurns demonstrated playmaking ability when NO ONE else on the team was doing so. He was the single most exciting player last year.

I think he can be deadly if the OC has the skill to design plays to get him open. And with Julius, that should be easy.

It is the OC (and the playcalls) that I will have my eyes on. Hurns can catch, A-Rob can catch, Julius has the best hands of all. I'm still not sure if Lee can catch or not. Skillful playcalls will make the difference. We'll know by game 3.

U think Hurns can catch and lee can't? Lol lee just can't stay healthy but this was known
people really sleeping on hurns in here

I saw flashes of greatness out there amidst a season of utter chaos where honestly no one should have stood out

you guys harp on him for not being consistent but he's a young, undrafted guy who went into the starting lineup in the NFL and made his first 2 catches for touchdowns in one of the worst places to play at aka philly

give him time, and to the guy who quoted his stats.. I mean srsly? You think jerry rice ran a 4.3?

I don't think anybody is really sleeping on Hurns, I just think some people might be overrating Hurns right now.

I think he'll have a long, steady career in the NFL. He might never be a superstar, but I highly doubt he's out of the league in 2-4 years.
Eventually I see him potentially being a journeyman WR. Teams will sign him because he's good enough to hold down either the X or Y slots but for more in a gap situation like they just need a body there while either a recent high pick develops or if the team is out of any other options. He'll probably play 10-12 years and happen to catch a ride on a Super Bowl team. A couple 1,000 yard seasons, enough to get 1 decent contract but he won't play to the expectations and then after a year or 2, will get cut and sign with another team for vet minimums and a small signing bonus.

I realize his stats went way the second half of the season with ARob, Marquize and DRob all healthy and doing well, however, the first half of the season Hurns proved to be a reliable receiver able to catch any pass that goes his way. The man is a consumate pro, and even though he may have an athletic ceiling, I can see him playing in this league for a decade. I really don't think it matters what position he plays as he can play them all, so just put him at #1, #2 or #3...wherever there's a need...and he'll get the job done.

Broken coverage or not, he did his thang.

I hope Robinson tears it up, but Hurns has shown that he belongs in this league.
Quote:Hurns can't catch while Blackmon... Whoops ruined the parade

Hurns certainly can catch which is why he was able to put together the stats he did as a rookie.  But I get your point which is probably that his weakness is his hands.  He has a remarkable ability to find the seams in the defense and while he's not fast he seems to play fast and is a physical player.  He has the tools to become a terrific possession receiver, filling the role Keenan used to fill for us provided he can eliminate the drops..
If you had to pick one and cut the other who would it be - Hurns or Lee?

Great question. ...

Id have to olen the stat book and contracts..

The pick would be Hurns for now.

Lee has the ability to be an explosive playmaker. Hurns is a possession receiver. Given Blake's arm strength and the direction NFL offenses are headed (vertical), my pick would have to be Lee at this point. I'm just not as high on Hurns as most here seem to be. He's got the ability to be a productive role player for a long time, but I think that if he were plugged in as a starter, the limitations in his game would really start to show.

If Hurns had a 1000 yard season with 10 tds last season would that change your mind?
W/everyone in good health, Hurns will be the rotational third receiver. Robinson will be the #1 WR and Lee will be the #2 WR...

NH3..
I like his potential and he proved he can play. For an un-drafted player I will take him, like Jags02 said, at #1, #2, #3, or anywhere he fits in right now. Take him over Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, Reggie Nelson, Derrick Harvey, and Blaine Gabbert any day of the week. Just saying!

As far as being the #1 guy, I guess we will see come camp. I will be cheering for him.

Absolutely, and I hope he does. That would be a great sign for our receiving corps going forward.

He probably would have if he could catch with his hands
If I had to pick two WR from the current jags roster to play a backyard style football game it'd be Hurns and AR15. Both just find a way to get open. AR15 is a move the sticks guy and Hurns will make you pay with the double move.

not even close and it's lee

I dont care if he has megatron talent if he can't stay on the field

He  clearly caught three of his six TDs with his hands and Sullivan says he works as hard as anyone he's coached at getting better.  I think we can put this old "can't catch with his hands" chestnut out to pasture.

It's just not true.  He traps the ball with his body a little too often - sure - but dude CAN catch with his hands.

For the record - I think he's an asset to the team and I don't care if he's 2, 3 or 4 on the depth chart. As long as he gets better and keeps contributing.

You can't dismiss it until it actually happens on the field in a real game and it's the same with the bortles and Arob
He can obviously catch with his hands.
