5 Can't Miss Prospects
|
Jason La Canfora from CBS Sports spoke with an unidentified NFL talent evaluator who says there are 5 can't miss prospects in the draft. Basically there are these 5 guys, and then there is everyone else. Here is the list:
1. Leonard Williams 2. Dante Fowler 3. Shane Ray 4. Kevin White 5. Amari Cooper He said there is a huge dropoff after that. I'm not sure how many players I would say are can't miss prospects, but if this guy is accurate the Jaguars are in a good position this draft. He said after the first 5 there are some tiers, but not a whole lot of difference going into the second round. He also put a premium on pass rushers due to offense generally being ahead of defense in the NFL (which I don't see applying to the Jaguars). Many would be surprised to see Ray in the top 5, but I'm not really surprised (though the foot is a concern). We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! I think Williams and Cooper are the 2 best prospects in this draft.

Aaron Curry was a can't miss prospect. It's interesting to read different takes but in reality there's no such thing as a can't miss prospect.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I think Brandon Scherff is a can't miss prospect; however, it would be at the guard position.
From his list, I am not sold on Shane Ray. Quote:Aaron Curry was a can't miss prospect. Quote:Aaron Curry was consider safe/sure thing, which is different from cant miss, Luck, Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson were cant miss What you mentioned is a good example of different takes, which of course is fine. The way I view the Aaron Curry situation, the perception was barring the injury factor, it was in essence considered a lock that Curry would have a very good career. While there were debates on how high Curry's upside was, his floor was considered very high. I was shocked at how his NFL career turned out. There were some concerns with Adrian Peterson because of his injury history with Oklahoma and his ordinary performance in the epic Bowl Game against Boise St. when he was coming off a knee injury. While I had a high degree of confidence Calvin Johnson would have a great career, there were some that had some doubts because Matt Millen drafted him after Charles Rogers and Mike Williams turned out to be busts and Millen's overall track record. I don't recall anyone thinking Andrew Luck wouldn't pan out. But there were some that wondered what his upside was. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I don't get the Fowler hype, I'm a gator fan and there was several games I remember him just no where to be found.
What a joke of a line saying Fowler wasn't a one year wonder like Beasley. The same Beasley who had 13 sacks last year (as opposed to 12 this year), and was also universally seen as a top half of 1st round guy last year before surprisingly returning to school.
JLC either managed to find an NFL scout who is about to be an ex NFL scout, or ya know this: <div>Justin Higdon @afc2nfc <div>100% false but whatever RT <a>@Rotoworld_Draft</a>: Scout: Vic Beasley is a one year wonder </div> Christopher Hansen @ChrisHansenNFL 2h2 hours ago Christopher Hansen retweeted Justin Higdon "Please fall to us. Please. Please" #GroverVoice </div>
Fowler scares me the most. I feel like he'll be just a guy, as opposed to "the man". Williams and Cooper are the only sure fire picks, IMO.

But he'll be the guy that "makes an impact that doesn't show up on the stat line" though ... I don't know, it's pretty obvious at least the fan base isn't very excited about Fowler.
