Replay for all Flags?

#1

NFL is considering replays for all penalty flags.

What the hell.  Can you say 5-hour games?

The "all penalties" idea is a longshot to pass, but I would be very surprised if they don't add reviews for something that is currently unreviewable. The NFL could allow challenges of helmet collisions because far too many of those are accidents caused by Newton's first law of motion, but still not make pass interference reviewable because it will always be a judgment call. Another proposal, letting coaches throw their red flags during the last two minutes and overtime, would not add too much time to the game because they still have only two challenges to use and may be out of timeouts that late in the half. Even that one is probably unlikely to pass. So many changes have been proposed most are unlikely to be voted on next week.

Not if the number of challenges remains the same.

So far I have not read anything about that changing. However, Detroit's proposal is for automatic reviews of penalties.

I'm tired of all the replay.  I get it, sometimes the call is bad and sometimes it costs you the game, but come on.

I salute you Mr. DVR. The savior of the 5 minute replay referee decision.

Doesn't help in the stadium though when it's 99 degrees and the ref is under the hood forever.

Fan proposal. For every challenge that doesn't change the call.... A free beer for fans. If the call is reversed...no harm, no foul. Beer stays at $8 for warm suds.

I read iPads were used at the Pro Bowl to speed it up. Maybe referees won't be under the hood at all next season.

Same here, the replays are such a drag.

If the intention is to speed up the replay review by having the league office review the call immediately and issue a ruling from NY without the theater of having the ref run to the sideline, then maybe.  There are ways to speed up the process, but the league will find a way to screw that up.

I’ve got a wild idea.  The players play the games and make mistakes.  The referees should ref the games and be permitted to make mistakes.  Poop happens.
