Quote:Randall Cobb, the top wideout set to hit the market, will be staying in Green Bay. The wide receiver has agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract to remain with the Green Bay Packers, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported via a source informed of the deal. $17 million is guaranteed, and Rapoport reports Cobb turned down more money elsewhere to stay in Green Bay.

This guy seemed the most plausible pickup for the Jags. Oh, well... Let's move on. Let's take a hard look at Maclin, I guess...

Randall Cobb was the only wide receiver I wanted because he can return punts. But after we get Devin McCourty and Julius Thomas, I won't be mad if Jeremy Maclin becomes a target.

Why not? We have the money to spend, and Caldwell can't assume last year's rookies are going to make the leap to veterans next year.

Maclin is solid insurance for this year's group. With Cobb out of play, getting a quality TE that can bail Bortles out of trouble becomes even more important.

If not for 9 mil (or maybe even more, yikes) then we won't get him.

Why people concerned that Julius is a Peyton product, but Cobb is not a Rodgers product?

Actually one poster (I forget who) was concerned Cobb is a Rodgers product.

The truth is neither player is a product of the quarterback. I will never understand why people believe that about a player who was just as good with the backup as he was with Manning or Rodgers.

Thomas was good without Manning?

When was Cobb good without Rodgers?

The truth is we don't know because it hasn't happened.

Honestly I'm not to upset about this. I mean I like Cobb for his versatility but how many times have we seen productive #2 WR not live up to their big contracts on other teams

This. I'm actually happy he didn't sign here.

I wouldn't go so far as to say happy, especially if we end up with no veteran receiver, but I certainly prefer Maclin as he is #1 receiver caliber and is the burner we don't have.

Maclin is a proven number 1. Cobb is not. Maclin has a higher average per catch than Cobb with more plays of 4o yards or more. Maclin has more yards with fewer catches and all as the number one.
