Resignings

#1

At this point, David Harris has resigned with the Jets and Niles Paul has resigned with the Redskins. I wonder what these two were thinking. You go through all this time and are only 1 day away from being able to negotiate with any team in the league to see what they offer and if you can make more then you resign today? Why not wait until tomorrow to see what the other 31 teams have to offer you?

Doesn't hurt waiting one more day just to entertain those other offers though. I dont get it either.

Ryan Davis - re-signed with the Jags.

Quote:Davis, a third-year veteran defensive end who has been through multiple head coaches, general managers and defensive line coaches – not to mention going through it all as an undrafted free agent – re-signed with the Jaguars on Friday afternoon.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(164,164,164);font-family:'Arial Regular', Arial, sans-serif;">He re-signed with the team as an exclusive rights free agent.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(164,164,164);font-family:'Arial Regular', Arial, sans-serif;">“I’m definitely excited to be a part of this,” Davis said Friday afternoon shortly after signing his contract at EverBank Field.

<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(164,164,164);font-family:'Arial Regular', Arial, sans-serif;">“I think last year we really hit a stride up front. I’m glad to be back and have another year to go at it with these guys I like playing alongside of.”

Considering a lot of the post I've seen on here, resigning is pretty negligible on the poor spelling, poor grammar chart.

The Lions made a couple of re-signings today.

K Matt Prater signed a 3 year / $ 9 million contract.

QB Kellen Moore,  who was a RFA who wasn't going to receive a RFA Tender offer,  signed a 2 year contract.   Moore will compete with Dan Orlovsky, for the # 2 QB spot.  Orlovsky signed a 1 year contract earlier this week.    The same with UFA DE Darryl Tapp.

From a Jaguars standpoint,   I doubt they would have had interest in any of these players.   There are many times when a player is more valuable to the current team they are with than they would be for another team.

I see what you are saying D6. I guess for me, when it was guys like Paul and Harris that had potential to hit it big on the market, I'm surprised they didn't play the market, especially after waiting this long.

The Wolverjag,   I thought there was a 50-50 chance David Harris would remain with the Jets,  with the Bills the other team that had around an even chance to sign him.   While I'm not surprised that Harris re-signed with the Jets,  as I mentioned in the last 24 hours,   like you I thought he would wait to hit the open market:

There are some cases when a player is concerned that a team will move on to one or more other options once the team officials can technically speak with agents about other FA's.

David Harris received a very good contract from the Jets,  hence I understand his decision to re-sign with them today.

I haven't seen Niles Paul's contract terms.    But it wouldn't surprise me if this is a case that reflects what you expressed,  that the player would have been better off waiting at least a day.

Wrong. In this case the hyphen is extremely important because re-sign and resign have opposite meanings. It is not like affect/effect, in which the tense changes but the definition remains the same.

On topic, does Peyton Manning count? He had two more years left on his contract, but needed to restructure it and take a pay cut.

Tense has nothing to do with affect/ effect. They are two completely different words.

Re-signings to date:

Peyton Manning (Broncos)

Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks)

Niles Paul (Redskins)

Have I missed anyone?
