Falcons being investigated for pumping in crowd noise

Quote:The NFL has been investigating the Atlanta Falcons' use of artificial crowd noise in the Georgia Dome over the past two seasons, sources told ESPN.

The Falcons could face stiff penalties if the NFL determines that they pumped fake crowd noise at the Georgia Dome.

The offense is expected to result in discipline, with the Falcons being fined and quite possibly losing a draft choice, according to sources.

"We were informed during the season that the league office is looking into crowd noise during our games," a Falcons team spokesman said. "We have cooperated fully with them, and we're awaiting the outcome."

Atlanta has been accused of piping in the noise while the opposing team was huddling, trying to call its play. Some around the league have argued that silent counts have rendered crowd noise more irrelevant, and it's difficult to discern how much of an advantage it gave the Falcons.

Didn't seem to impact that final game against Carolina much

If it didnt' give them any advantage... and they weren't going for a record... why would they do it?

I say take a 1st round pick, and give it to the team in closest proximity to them, and is not a divisional rival.  I'm not sure what team that might be.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Absolutely NOT because that team would be Tennessee.  Screw the tacks.

I should have mentioned we should also punish them by putting the tacks in the NFC South.  And moving the Buccaneers to the AFC South.

I mean having to travel to memphis every year... that's a pretty good bonus punishment.  And that also hits the Panthers for heating balls, and a bonus punishment for bountygate and the Saints.

The Falcons are sort of looked up to as a model franchise with Arthur Blank.  Kind of ironic that two of the teams that are looked up to are being investigated for cheating.

OMG ITS NOISEGATE! BURN THEM AT THE STAKE, REMOVE THEM FROM THE DRAFT NEXT YEAR, TEAR DOWN THEIR FACILITY AND MAKE THEM PLAY IN THE NBA FOR A YEAR AS PUNISHMENT. REMOVE ALL THEIR FIRSTBORNS SO THAT THEIR CHEATING WAYS SHALL BE BANISHED FROM THE MORTAL REALM.

O its the falcons not the pats, well hardy har make a joke about it and move on like nothing happened.

It would indeed be punishing the Falcons, having them travel to Memphis to play the Titans.

Per rotoworld:

Quote:Speaking Tuesday, Falcons owner Arthur Blank appeared to admit the team pumped artificial noise into its 2013-14 home games.

''It's not really a fine line,'' Blank said. ''I think what we've done in 2013 and 2014 was wrong. Anything that affects the competitive balance and fairness on the field, we're opposed to." Blank must know the league has irrefutable evidence, and is trying to get out in front of the apology game.

The Falcons are subject to both a hefty fine and loss of draft picks. Blank's contriteness could level down the punishment, however.

Deflated balls incident - 34 pages.

Actually proven crowd noise incident - not even 1 full page.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Exactly, did anyone hear the cd skip when the patriots were in the huddle? They still got off.

Thanks for the update Knarnn.  If there is a team that can't even remotely afford loss of draft picks, the falcons are that team.  To have a franchise QB and an oustanding WR with no draft picks to shore up the offense?  Ouch.
