What to do with the #1 Pick?

Haha a Gurley first overall? Maybe I dreamt this but Gurley just tore his ACL. And he's a running back...

we will probably pick some offensive lineman...... and then go on to be 3-13 in 2015

Quote:Two options:

1. Draft the highest-rated non-QB on the team's board, which will almost certainly be a lineman.

2. If Caldwell is sure that one of those QBs will be a better pro than Bortles and believes that Bortles will not be as good as advertised, you could make a case for biting the bullet, drafting one of them, then trading Bortles for the second-rounder that Arizona is offering. I would put the chances of this happening somewhere around 1%, because I'm not sure that any of the QBs coming out this year are sure-fire bets to be better than Bortles. Maybe Mariota...maybe Mariota, but still probably not.

I still have a hard time looking at your scenario and not seeing a trade possibility. With three top QBs available, at least one team is going to want pick of the litter, and will put together a trade package to get him.
Agreed this is one more hard draft again like 2012.There is no Clowney. This staff will have to really work to find out who the best player is. The problem is I don't trust this staff.

I would love a trade-down, even if it's not for a king's ransom... especially if we think the top of the draft is kind of even

Quote:Randy Gregory is probably the best bet at that slot to benefit the Jaguars.

The only other thing I could see really making sense there, is taking Mariota and hoping to be able to pull off a trade later scenario when a team realizes they need a QB and Mariota is the best available. (would be a huge gamble)

Can you trade a player you just selected for picks or a player from their team? If so, that would be pretty neat to see happen.

The best case is a trade back. I believe we will be able to secure a few draft picks for Miaritta. What if he is really the truth? QB like him were a big trend a couple of years ago. It seems to be going back to the drop back passer again though.

Again I do not think the Jags are ready to give up on Bortels yet. I think we will go DL or OL no matter where we pick.

Absolutely. Not the best example but the giants and chargers did it and it involved Eli manning and rivers.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
