Allen Hurns, WR: +2.4

Breakdown: It doesn’t get much better than starting off your career with your first two catches going for scores, but that’s exactly what the undrafted free agent out of Miami did yesterday. Adding another long reception when the Jaguars were backed up at their own 1-yard line, Hurns finished the game with four receptions for 101 yards.

Signature Stat: Chad Henne had a Quarterback Rating of 135.4 on the eight passes where he targeted Hurns.

Says a few things doesn't it?

Maybe Bortles looks so good, at least in part, because of Hurns in pre season. Maybe a piece of the puzzle to the Bortles starting question?

Maybe we have a real treasure on our hands with Hurns.

Maybe the offense would look a heck of a lot better if we could ever get two quality receivers on the field at the same time, What would Shorts and Hurns look like together or Hurns with a developed rookie? Or even the unimaginable thought of Hurns and Blackmon?

Maybe the offensive problem isn't ALL Henne even though he is definitely PART of the problem.

This has nothing to do with Bortles

OK. First off, you could make up any quarterback rating you wanted if you select a handful of plays and ignore the others. And secondly, wasn't Hurns starting most (if not all) of the preseason anyway? But I don't see how it's a surprise that if you isolate a WR who had two touchdowns and over 100 yards that the corresponding QB rating would be high.

It's already obvious that Hurns is much better than his draft position, but it's not just him.

Bortles threw a lot of great passes in the preseason to a lot of guys, some of whom didn't even make the team.

Hurns and Bortles will be a great combo for a long time, and Hurns did the best he could to make Henne not look horrible, but Hurns will look even better when he has a real QB throwing to him.

Both of the touchdown passes were not even that good. The deeper one was short and he had to turn around and stall to get it and the shorter one was a fantastic body adjustment by Hurns to turn himself around backwards in the air to make the catch and YAC to get to the end zone. Hurns bailed out Henne on both of those plays IMO.

What was his rating on the throws he one-hopped into our WR's shins?
Only a chump boos the home team!

The passes stank all game long... even the TD's required good adjustments by the receiver and bad coverage.

No pain, no gain.

This is a joke right? Picking and choosing throws to make a QB rating? BB5 doesn't belong in this conversation. He makes everyone around him better when he plays. Hurns made Henne relevant on Sunday.

I realize this is hard for people to grasp, but everyone I've listened to that actually watched the tape has said Henne played well. Could he have taken more chances as Gus said? Sure. But he played well.

Henne played better than he normally does. The rest of the offense didn't play very well. WR did 2nd best but too much inconsistency doomed them. Good news is that it'll get better.
