June Jones resigns as SMU Head Coach
|
His team is on a downward trend and Jones states that he has personal issues to deal with.
From the article: <p style="margin-left:40px;">"...I have devoted my life for the last 50 years to playing and coaching this game and it has been a great journey. This job has a lot of demands, as you know, and along with that journey comes a price that is paid. I have some personal issues I have been dealing with and I need to take a step away so I can address them at this time ..." On a side note, I always thought that if any program could come back from a death penalty, SMU could do it. They have a big geography advantage and it would seem that they could easily tap into the local Texas talent. But no one seems to be able to make it happen.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

He did a great job returning SMU back to some semblance of relevancy which was good to see. Hopefully they can bring in a coach who can continue to elevate the program to higher heights.
"Sucess Is Not a Goal, It is a By-product"
He had a few decent years and brought in some good receivers like Emmanuel Sanders and Aldrick Robinson. But like Mike Price at UTEP, success is hard to sustain at "mid-major" schools in Texas.
