Jaguars practice squad history. Any players amount to something?

#1

The practice squad rarely has players develop into starters league wide. There is that rare James Harrison player who does come in and makes a difference.  Has the Jaguars ever had a practice squad player develop into a solid starter?.

Do players picked off our PS by other teams count?

Rob Meier was awesome. I miss some of those old days with Gary Walker and Seth Payne in the middle of the defense. Meier was always fun to watch though when he got out on the field.

Was Richard Collier a practice squad guy? Before the incident, I thought he had potential to be a solid starter.
Only a chump boos the home team!

He was the backup LT and started one game when Khalif Barnes got into off-field trouble.

I get the feeling under Caldwell we will find a few more gems like that.

Has looked like hot garbage so far. And Caldwell didn't find Morris...wasn't he Fisch's QB in Miami?

Pretty sure they decided not to risk losing him and kept him on the roster his first year. I remember that was a big and exciting debate going on at the time though. He wasn't really polished enough to play against #1's but he looked dominant against the #3's. It really is a shame he never got to see how could he could be with some pro-level coaching. Sad

Time will tell if Jacques McClendon will amount to something significant in the NFL.  But in relation to this thread,  he did spend some time on the Lions Practice squad a few seasons ago.   McClendon also was a backup on the 53 man roster.   I don't think he got into a meaningful regular season game situation with the team.

Then, thats probably one of the main reasons he's here. Yarno coached him.

Agreed.  It's the same major reason why I thought back in the winter the Jaguars were going to target UFA T Jason Fox  ( who ended up signing with the Dolphins. ).

Not sure if they came from ours, or if we plucked them off someone else's.

Either way... same difference IMO.  Whether you call them up from your own or elsewhere, it's an art.

I'm not sure most PS guys are guys you can trust to give you the looks you want, and not necessarily guys you think will turn into a contributor a couple years out.  If you really want to keep a guy, you keep him and don't leave him exposed on the PS (see: Shatley.)
