Caldwell was on NFL Insiders today

Quote:Was surprised with Evans over Sammy

I've read a few teams did as well. Due to C. Johnson traits. I'm guessing Shorts drew comparisons to ODB and Brooks. And Benjamin was probably to raw in comparison to the others.

Quote:I gave a lot of crap with the Bridgewater love before the draft, but 100% agree with him on Lee! I spent a ton of time looking at the recievers this year and I had him as my #9 reciever, behind Matthews who I had eigth and just ahead of Janis. My top 5 in order were Evans-Watkins-Robinson-Cooks- Landry.Had to wonder about being injury prone and the drop from not having Woods on the other side.
He didn't have Woods on the other side his first year either and he still had an outstanding year as a true freshman. You guys are offbase.

Quote:But yet and still you like Matthews and Latimer. Do you see the contradiction?
Nope i didn't like Matthews much either. Him, Lee, and Kelvin Benjamin were in my tier 4 of WR (fringe top 10 in the class)...below Robinson, Adams, and Latimer.

And Latimer's hands are great. He plucks the ball very naturally, and I didn't see him drop anything.

Sounds to me like a classic case of box score scouting. Even in 2011 and 2012 he still had the major flaw with his inconsistent hands, still didn't have good deep speed, and still had questions about whether his frame would lead to injuries.

He was never a true top 10 talent, just like Matt Barkley wasn't that was purely media ignorance. They both broke down under evaluation. Lee in the 2nd was always proper value we didn't get some mega steal.

It's BS that he didn't have good deep speed and he didn't have bad hands either, but w/e. I'm not arguing with you when the tape speaks for itself, Caldwell's evaluation obviously agrees with me.

Quote:Yeah, I never understood the Matthews love. But then again I didn't, and still don't really, get the Lee love either. Robinson was much better than both to me in evaluations, and nothing has happened to change my mind in the last few months.

I think Lee will be fine, but I do get a little sad when I think that we could be rolling Robinson with Latimer or Adams instead, however.

I'd rather have Lee than Latimer...Latimer looks very raw. I don't see him as a slam dunk prospect.

I do agree on Adams though. Adams + Robinson would have been nice.

Quote:Except I was also one of the first people period to say Brandin Cooks was a no brainer stud 1st round WR. Size matters, but what matters more is being able to catch the ball cleanly and efficiently...and Lee is literally the most awkward body trapping/frying pan hands catcher I've ever evaluated.

Torrey Smith also has a ton of body catches.

No need to get all bent out of shape, he was a great value where he was picked! I just never saw the early first round value. BTW, he did have Woods on the other side his breakout year.

Quote:1. Evans

2. Watkins

3. Lee

4. Robinson

Was our receiver board, according to him. Pre-injury, Dave had a first round grade on Colvin and Gus had him as his #2 cornerback. Also had a first round grade on both receivers.

In other words, we got 4 guys Dave and Gus considered first round talents and top talents in their position group in the draft. If they're right about those four, this is the draft that drastically changes the direction of this franchise.

 Thanks for the info.

While most teams likely rated Sammy Watkins ahead of Mike Evans,   chances are at least a handful of teams rated Evans higher.

The info that you provided that's most surprising on this end is Gus Bradley rating Aaron Colvin as his # 2 CB ( pre-injury. ).   Based on that,  the Jaguars calculated decision of hoping Colvin would fall to pick # 114 paid off.   The Jaguars must have had at least a 2nd Round grade on G Brandon Linder to trade up for him and risk losing Colvin.

Quote:What top notch CBs did Matthews go against?

I don't dispute that the SEC generally is a tougher conference than the Big Ten, but you can say that Robinson went against  Bradley Roby and Stanley Jean Baptiste.

From what I can tell, the best CB Matthews went against may have been Jaylen Watkins.

I'm not questioning the Jaguars decision,  as it was difficult to separate a number of the WR's projected to go in Round 2.   In my mock draft,  I had the Jaguars taking Allen Robinson with pick # 39 (  I never thought Marqise Lee would be available ),   with Jordan Matthews being taken with pick # 45.

But in answer to your question,  in 2011,   Jordan Matthews might have faced Dee Milliner when Vanderbilt played Alabama that season.
