Storm Johnson RB UCF

#61

He looks like a man amongst boys in that video.  Like a guy that slipped through the bigger school cracks (for whatever reason that may be) and ended up at a smaller school.

I like him. The only negatives I could see are the fumbles (8 over his college career), and he runs a little too upright, but the fumbles can be fixed I think, (remember Tiki Barber), and the other is a nitpick.

That post was meant for the Cobb thread...not sure how I ended up in here.   Big Grin

Great value in the 7th.  We could have grabbed him in round 5 and I would have really liked it.  7th round even better.

I dont think he is great at any one thing but he doesnt really do anything poorly(other than some fumbles but thats an easy fix).  Runs hard.  Fast in the open field.  Strong enough to push the piles.

I can't speak for Cobb, I haven't seen him play yet. If anyone is going to go it is probably Todman.

Give the video in his thread a look. You might be impressed.

Honestly TMD i think all 6 make the roster at this point. I know thats a lot, but Ewing has a role on ST, and Denard can't reliably be assessed until he shows us what he can do at 210+. I think Cobb is a great understudy to Todman, with more upside. If anyone gets bumped- its Todman.

Ewing and Will T. will be battling for 1 spot I'm pretty sure.

Just some Storm notes:

1. He played for the U as a freshman and allowed to leave when Randy Shannon was canned.  Couldn't go to ACC and SEC was full of RB's.  UCF made perfect sense.

2. His best games were against the best competition - Penn State, Baylor, Louisville, Ohio State. We he got the rock he made plays.

3. He had great rb talent to compete with.  He had to split time as a Sophomore with Latavius Murray (All conference 1st team 2012), who was drafted by the Raiders and on IR all last year and Will Stanback who was 2nd team All-conference this year.  Storm was 1st team All-conference this year.  Not too often do you see both your backs as 1st and 2nd team All conference, unless they each got the rock.

4. Only had 335 carries in college and avg 5.3 yds per carry.  On the contrary LeVeon Bell (who was injured as a rookie for the steelers last year had 382 carries in JUST his senior year).

5. Runs the read option with Blake to perfection

6. Understands Blake's scrambling and playmaking ability and finds a way to get open for huge gains.

Wait so we could actually be able to pull off the read option? Shutup and take my money

Storm Johnson is a nice addition to the roster.  Watching his film, you see a guy who is patient in letting his blocks set up.  He's not running away from anyone, but he's got a good nose for finding gaps.  We'll see how that translates to the NFL where everyone is bigger and faster.  It gives Bortles a nice outlet he's familiar with.

I'm surprised he slipped to 7.  He's legitimate 4th round pick.  I think he will be a contributor to this team early in the season.

One of the things that I like about Johnson is his ability to run in a crowd. He doesn't really strike me as a pounder per se, but he does seem to have moves inside the hole that don't kill his momentum.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I remember watching a few Bortles draftbreakdowns and always seeing this guy pop up again and again in clutch situations. I like him as a power back on early downs and then a great swing back on passing downs who can run the more advanced RB routes and take a LB's attention in coverage.

Not a burner but he is smooth with a nice glide to his running motion and that makes for little wasted movement and fresher legs later in the game.

Wonder if we will see him motion out of the back field and run some TE style stuff?

Deacon, if you get a chance, take a look at the video in the Terrence Cobb thread, he also seems to run very well in a crowd, often escaping it.
