Let's Talk Numbers

I got this link from another thread.  Thanks to flgatorsandjags for posting it.   It shows the current cap space for all the teams.   We have 34 million in cap space, after counting the carryover from last year.    However, we are at 116 million with the league-wide cap set at 133 million, so we are actually about 17 million short of the 133 million normal cap number.

I think the important thing to remember is that if we spend all the 151 million available to us for 2014, we will still be under the cap for this year, but we might be way over the cap for next year, because we wouldn't have any carryover like we did this year.

What Caldwell will do is try to project the league wide cap limit for next year and the year after, and keep enough carryover so we don't have cap problems in those years.  He will take a look at our roster and see which players are coming up for free agency and how much it will take to re-sign them.   Then he'll look at the rest of the league and see if there are going to be key free agents coming loose from teams next offseason and try to make sure we have enough cap room to sign those guys if we want to.  We also have to retain enough cap space to sign all our draft picks.

So it's not just a matter of spending the entire 151 million we have available to us.

Well said.

We are probably going to see some prove it deals on the OL / TE / FS, but the multiyear investments are probably over.  Good spot to enter the draft, lots of positions can be upgraded, but only two true holes on the roster (Center/ RG).
