If the QB crop isn't all that, there's no reason to overdraft them solely because you're desperate.  That always ends in disaster.

As deuce said, you can't manufacture a franchise QB... especially not one from a questionable crop like this one.  So if you do take one, take one at the proper value.  That results in picks like Kaepernick and Wilson instead of Gabbert and Anger.
I thought this board had already ended the Russell Wilson debate.  Russell Wilson is what you called hindsight.  He was a third round pick that was low risk and usually low reward; they did pay Matt Flynn $10 mil to be their starter for a couple of years.  If Seattle could project that he would be this good this early in his career, they would gladly trade up to the #3 spot.  Otherwise, they would risk losing him at any given draft spot.  Basically, they were lucky, not because they got him at a cheap value, but because he turned out to be better than what they'd expected out of a third rounder.

I'm glad you brought up Kaepernick.  This is what happens when a certain team waited to draft Kaepernick at the "proper value":

You want another example?  Look no further than Cam Newton.  If Cam comes out this year, without knowing the fact, would this team even consider Cam as a first rounder?  Please don't lie, because I lurked this board during that draft and the 2011 season.  I know what the consensus opinion about Newton were at that time.

If the Browns select Hyde (a similar player to Richardson) @ 26 Browns fans should just jump ship after all.
