She likes the Galaxy 10.1...I'd get her the Galaxy 10.1.
I think there is 2 Galaxys- the Tab and the Note. I do know that the Note is higher priced and does more things. Then, within each one are the sizes which can be maybe 7 in, 8 in , 10 in. There's a lot of discussion on which size is "ideal" for a tablet (but, hint hint, she likes the 10.1). The Galaxy Tab is a nice machine. All the other kids here can address this much more clearly and intelligently than I can and they'll be on here as they sober up.

I bought the Galaxy Note 8.0, but didn't even know there were different grades, or lower quality ones. The Notes have higher resolution screens and better internal components (memory, processor, etc). The Note also has the stylus with specialized software for it. It also has the IR blaster and software that can control your television. I also bought the 8.0 for my mom recently and its a nice little machine for sure. That being said, the Tab may be fine for most people. As I said, tablets are really popular because they are ultra portable and provide quick and easy access to what most people used their computers for - E-mail, social media, internet browsing, and casual games. Tabs are fine for this. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. So having an Android tablet seems a bit redundant for me, as the phone itself is pretty large. I haven't gone wrong with Samsung yet.
I'm trying to sell my laptop so I can get either the latest Galaxy Tab 10.1 or an Asus Transformer. I like the idea of having a tablet with its own dedicted keyboard you can click it into.
I have a 7" Kindle Fire HD and really enjoy it, but it is best used as a media streaming device. Great picture and the speakers are better than any other tablet, which is admittedly not saying much. The browser is somewhat lacking, apps can be buggy and the umbilical cord to Amazon is annoying. Although it is an Android device, some Android apps will not work without hacking into the code. Still, for $199 (now $139, the new 7" HDX is $229) it serves its purpose quite well.
The new 8.9" HDX models are supposedly spectacular. Lighter than the new iPad, faster and a better picture than the HD, 1080p front facing camera, 720p rear facing camera. It starts at $379.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

Being that I have the Galaxy note, and Ipad, I am really interested in the Surface Pro Tablet mainly because they have USB ports for me to upload documents if I dont feel like dealing with Skydrive.
The attachable keyboard is really nice as well.
