Bridgewater Article

#41

just for fun i dug up this article on a player already drafted into the NFL because i see a lot of the same dumb criticisms that teddy is getting. removed the players name, take a guess at who it is. pulled from sports illustrated btw.

XXXX is probably the most prepared QB to enter the NFL draft in several years.. He has had a storybook college career, and has been in a top level program with excellent coaching, and he has maturity and great intangibles to go along with his natural skills.. He should be able to pick up the mental aspects of the game early on the NFL level, and should play very quickly. He has great overall field vision. He is a fierce competitor, and all of his mechanics are very solid. He has good arm strength, but not necessarily a “gun” that you might expect from a QB at the top of the draft.. He has adequate mobility and good overall athleticism, although he is not a scrambler by nature. He has done an excellent job of getting the most out of his abilities, but he is not quite as natural a player as XXXX. One question that some NFL scouts have is the question “will he get any better?”. At times he gives the appearance of being a self-made player, and sometimes those types of players don’t always go on to great NFL careers. In XXXX’s case, he may be a solid and productive NFL QB, but he may not have Hall of Fame type skills, but it certainly won’t be for lack of effort.. He has probably been the most scouted player in the draft in recent years, and because that NFL teams tend to look too much at potential flaws, instead of accepting him for what he is, a great college QB that is on his way to an outstanding NFL career.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Just another example of why instead of trying to find that QB with "potential", which most of the time is never realized in the NFL, instead focus on the QB that actually played very well in college and need the least "fixing" at the NFL level. Like Teddy Bridgewater.

exactly, its easy to pick apart people that are the consensus number 1. they have nowhere to go but down. basically being criticized for being as good as they are already. whereas the guys who arent the number 1 guy always move up because of "potential." how did that work out in the instance of manning?

the similarities are pretty crazy. there are 100's of qbs with the physical tools, but whats between the ears is the most important.

I agree with the above. I also find that when people discuss Bridgewater's perceived "weaknesses" they tend to talk about size or build and never actually anything on the football field. He's a prototypical QB in the Manning, Rodgers, Brady mold that can make all of the throws, make all of the correct reads and take over a game if he needs to. More importantly, he's sharp as a tack and in my experience, QB's are measured above the neck.

The size thing may indeed prove to be a worthy concern.......but possessing every other important QB attribute that he does possess, should absolutely supercede that concern. If you have the opportunity to draft a QB with Teddy's football/ QB acumen, you do it - all the time , every time. And don't look back.

Quote:But he's no elite prospect. Like Aaron, those QBs simply shouldn't be drafted top five. RG3 was hyped mostly because of his sheer athleticism.

Later? Sure.
Not sure what about Teddy isnt elite other than his frame. Hes a much better prospect than RG3. He understands the pro game better. He has better pocket presence and he is more cerebral.
