Seems like one of those numbers that are used to shock people because to most people $85,000,000 is a lot of money.  But much of that money is being spent whether the President is on 'vacation' or not.  (Of note, Presidents pay for their own lodgings and their families lodgings.  It's everything else that costs, mainly the use of Air Force One and it's aerial support)

 

And of course Presidents never really have vacations.  As Nancy Reagan said "They don't get vacations, they just get a change of scenery".  


I wonder if these same people bemoaning Obama's vacations will keep track of Trump's.  They didn't seem to keep track of Bush's.

It's not easy to find, but looks like people estimate Bush cost about 20 million total in vacations...even though he actually more total vacation days than Obama.
