How has the Gator Bowl fallen so far?
|
I know the local yokel media won't criticize Catlett and the GBA but remember when the Gator Bowl was actually in the second tier of bowls? It used to be right there with the Citrus (Capital One), Peach (Chick Fil-A) and Cotton as just a step under the BCS. Now it is so low on the totem pole that the Buffalo Wild Wing Bowl gets to pick a Big Ten opponent ahead of it. It's so low that the ACC went with the Russell Athletic Bowl over the Gator Bowl a year ago. Maybe the new playoff format and the stadium upgrades will help.

Nebraska vs. Georgia should draw a good crowd,
I wonder if payouts over the last couple of years has been a factor in determining which schools play in the GB.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.
The game has had four title sponsors in under ten years. There is no consistency I also believe Catlett and company have been unwilling to sell the name of the game to the title sponsor. For that reason, the game is under not only the Capital One and Chick Fil-A Bowls. But also the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in terms of payouts.
This year has a nice matchup on paper and should move some tickets. But Nebraska has been awful their last few games and Georgia is down it's best known player.

"Catlett and company have been unwilling to sell the name of the game to the tittle sponsor." What? It was the Toyota Gator Bowl. What tittle sponsor did they turn down? It's all about the payout.

I wonder if all the stadium renovations will make the bowl a bigger draw in the future.. More of a prestigious game anyway.
When you're called the Taxslayer Bowl...you kind of lose a little panache!!!
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

So much on the line for the two conferences in just a few hours.
Things are bad when the Buffalo Wild Wings gets to pick ahead of you.

... from what I read, Nebraska fans are not happy about playing the same opponent as last year. That said, I think grabbing them and not Minnesota was a great move. Interestingly enough, I went on to a message board and they are trash talking Georgia so perhaps we're starting a post season rivalry. Dawgs won last year 45-31 in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando.
I like the teams ... not certain why we are getting down lower on the selection totem pole. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/18811...s-and-more |
