Rashean Mathis reflects on his success against Big Ben and the Steelers

There are a number of great Jaguars memories mentioned in this article. The article was written in context with Rashean Mathis and the Lions playing the Steelers at Heinz Field tomorrow. Rashean Mathis is very level headed, knowing that past success doesn't guarantee success in the present and future. Having said that, not many, if any Defensive player in the NFL has made as many big plays against the Steelers in the last decade as Mathis has. We show less advertisements to registered users. Mathis had some great performances against Big Ben. No doubt. Fun to remember, D6. :thanks:
Quote:Mathis had some great performances against Big Ben. No doubt. Fun to remember, D6. :thanks: My pleasure, NYCjags. Jaguars-Steelers rivalry remained one of the NFL's best last decade even after the teams went into separate divisions, Each of those games were classics. The 9-0 game was a great example of a low scoring game being amongst the most exciting / interesting games played in the league all season.
There was a time where Mathis had more INTs and INTs for TDs against Big Ben than any DB in the AFC North. That's an impressive statistic
THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.
RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. Quote:There was a time where Mathis had more INTs and INTs for TDs against Big Ben than any DB in the AFC North. That's an impressive statistic That is impressive to say the least, especially considering what you touched on that the Jaguars at most played the Steelers once each season in the regular season. Even if the one playoff game in the 2007 season is included, it speaks volumes to what Rashean Mathis accomplished against Big Ben. This doesn't even include his OT game winning INT against Tommy Maddox, in 2005. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Thanks for the good times Rashean....Good Luck tomorrow
Because Jaguars is our mantra
![]() Quote:My pleasure, NYCjags. That 9-0 win over the Steelers was the most intense game I've ever attended (and I've been to a lot of them.) Being a night game always seems to add some special energy, but that game was more like Ali-Frazier than simply a football game.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:That 9-0 win over the Steelers was the most intense game I've ever attended (and I've been to a lot of them.) One thing that stood out about that 9-0 game when watching it on TV was how loud the crowd was in Jacksonville. I can't even imagine how loud it was in person! This game is a prime example that if the fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars have a good product to root for, they will respond favorably.
Quote:My pleasure, NYCjags. I will never forget that one. Not only did Mathis intercept Big Ben, but we hit him silly and several times I could see pain on his face. Priceless. Like Adam2012 expressed above, that game was like a Heavyweight Championship fight. That was usually the case when the Jaguars and Steelers played that decade.
Thanks for the article D6 and thanks for the memories Rashean...

He picked off Tommy Maddox for a game winning TD in overtime in 05' i believe too.
Quote:He picked off Tommy Maddox for a game winning TD in overtime in 05' i believe too. That was awesome. He also intercepted Chad Pennington's backup (can't remember his name) in overtime that year. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Thanks for the article D6 and thanks for the memories Rashean... My pleasure, shag. One thing that jumped out for me the last 2 weeks in the two Lions road games was seeing 3 great CB's from the 2003 Draft. Yet none of them went in the 1st Round. Rashean Mathis, Charles Tillman, and Ike Taylor are part of the best CB draft crop that I can recall. Terence Newman, Marcus Trufant, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Asante Samuel are 4 other CB's that had high caliber careers from that draft crop. Quote:He picked off Tommy Maddox for a game winning TD in overtime in 05' i believe too. That's correct. It doesn't get much better for a CB than ending the game on a takeaway in OT. Quote:That was awesome. He also intercepted Chad Pennington's backup (can't remember his name) in overtime that year. According to the following website, the interception on the road in OT against the Jets that Rashean Mathis had in 2005 actually came against Chad Pennington. Jay Fielder did appear in that game though: http://espn.go.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId...0&period=5 |
