Doesnt turn the ball over, is mobile, would not require a long term contract, and KC is gonna be willing to get whatever they can for him because everyone knows the rookie is starting next year When did he start playing defense in the playoffs, and he is better than Blake and will probably cost the same. You telling me you wouldnt trust Smith game to game over Bortles?
Nothing has changed, at least for me on what you should do with him. 4 year, 70-75 million is fair, that is a fair deal for a QB like Blake. I would still draft one this year or next, and I think at this point, you pass on Cousins altogether to save up for your team's young guns that will be FA's soon. I have grown on the idea of passing on a FA QB, Blake convinced me today he should be the QB for the next season or 2 at least. He keeps it up, he can be more than good enough to win a super bowl.

Alex Smith right now, is a better QB than Blake on paper. I think what we saw this post season though, is Blake has some clutch qualities, he plays up to the event. It seems he has the ability to play well in big games, and I am not so sure Alex Smith does. That is something you can't coach, Blake can be better, and if he continues to improve he can be a top 15 QB. So wouldn't that tell you that a team isn't going to get this far unless the QB does his part? That's fair, but I'd also like to have an OC who doesn't try to out coach himself. They had no answer for anything this Offense was doing in the 1st half and they completely went away from it in the 2nd half. Why? Don't say because of Bortles, because Bortles had them rolling during the 1st half. I know that the Pats would adjust some for it at halftime, but why go completely away from what was working? Also, where'd Grant go? He was blazing by people in the 1st half and you don't even put him on the field in the 2nd half? I think he should have gotten a few more touches in the 2nd half, but if not, he should of at least been on the field as some sort of decoy. What the hell happened there? Defense signed til 2019. We are at win now window wide open, insert decent QB would probably playing that game at home. And I think the distinction between those two things is very important. I've been asking the same questions, brother. The only answer I have is that in some reg season games they'd go heavy with LF in the second half and he'd begin chipping away at the defense and break a few big runs. Perhaps they were trying to stay patient with that model hoping he'd break a big one, but I'd certainly have mixed Grant in there and deviated from the gut runs a bit with tosses or swing passes on early downs.
TC is no moron and has no emotional ties to anyone on this roster. I suspect he has had his mind made up on the QB situation for months. He won't let us down.
There is zero reason to. We have him under control. We have franchise tags beyond next year. We can go year by year for another 3 years at an expensive but not potential SB window killing level of committment.
But seriously, we should still be looking for an upgrade. I give a ton of credit to the staff for extracting as much blood from the Bortles stone as possible, and Blake for harnessing himself quite a bit. He did better than I thought he could have this season. Let's be real, he still held us back a ton. How many dump offs and FB screens and FB seams and drag routes can we run before it gets figured out? I would say it already has been. The same crossers got were getting us 15-20 yards of YAC during Blake's good December stretch were already mostly mitigated just a few games later. Blake is still among the very worst in the league at being able to push it downfield and being able to make quick hitting tight window throws, which was still in full effect this season even with the team trying to keep him from having to do it as much as possible. Even though they won't say it, the coaching staff kneeling with 55 seconds and then playing the 2nd half scared as hell proved they agree. We show less advertisements to registered users. We need a QB who can audible out of a run play into a 9 man box. Could BB5 do that if they took the leash off?
