A Good MMQBSI on pre draft stuff
|
Quote:pirkster I haven't seen any of his takes on QBs until now, so I can't say he's bad at analyzing QB prospects. However, he HAS played QB at the NFL level (obviously not very well). Whatever I think of him as an NFL QB, his knowledge of the position far surpasses mine. I can not disregard this opinion, especially in the absence of a former QB countering this analysis. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Not to mention all the scouts and GMs, some who have barely even played football.

He's a spectacular college QB, a real playmaker, but at the NFL level, I've never heard of Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers referred to as a "playmaker." What I see of Jackson is a lot of spectacular runs. That doesn't last long in the NFL, especially if you are build like Lamar Jackson. I don't want to spend a first round pick (plus whatever it would take to move up) to take a guy who will sit on the bench, when we have a very durable QB and our window to win in the playoffs is open right now. The future is now. We are here. We need to reach out and take it. Not take a flyer on a guy who at best will sit on the bench. Coughlin, Caldwell, and Marrone have all stated they want to win with defense and a running game. We just signed Blake to an extension. If they draft Lamar Jackson in the first round, I will think they have lost their minds. Everyone agrees, right now, Lamar Jackson is a project. History shows that most often, QBs who need development are a bad risk. (04-11-2018, 09:22 AM)The Real Marty Wrote:You still have to build for the future. If you see a franchise QB, you have to take him. We also have a handful of picks in this draft outside of that pick, so it's not like drafting Lamar sets us back.(04-10-2018, 09:38 AM)Markulous Wrote: Take a look at when his mechanics are on point and you'll see that he usually throws a very accurate pass. I think that stuff is definitely able to be coached up. Combine that with him being a natural fit for a RPO and PA, I think he makes a lot of sense for us. Having played the position doesn't make you an expert evaluator, or even a capable evaluator at all.

You still have to keep an eye out on the future to try to extend that window of winning. If, Bortles fails to become the guy we would all like him to be what does that do to this team's future? The window closes just as fast as it opened. Having an uber talented guy waiting in the wings, who's spent time in the offense, fine tuning his skills on the bench puts us at an advantage next year instead of hoping to look to next years draft to take a QB (terrible QB class next year btw) or trading for some below average starter. If Bortles works out, great! We now have a young QB who can be used as trade bait and future draft capitol. If he doesn't, our window is still open. BTW this same thought process applies to Mason Rudolph as well. Regarding the bolded, this is not true at all. Because of the way college offenses are currently ran, 95% of QB's coming out require some level of development. Obviously some require more than others. LJ isn't needing a Tebow level of mechanics overhaul as some would have you believe.
