John Prine, Who Chronicled the Human Condition in Song, Dies at 73

John Prine, the raspy-voiced country-folk singer whose ingenious lyrics to songs by turns poignant, angry and comic made him a favorite of Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and others, died Tuesday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was 73.

Big loss to what folks now call "Americana."
His songwriting and lyric styling is cited by dozens of huge names as inspiration.
A songwriter's songwriter.

If you never heard of the guy, stop what you're doing and youtube Bonnie Raitt's rendition of "Angel from Montgomery". Prine shows up as the songwriter for a ton of songs done by other artists, and not just in the country universe.

This really sucks, I heard he had the virus a couple weeks back, but was improving. RIP John.
