With each conference having 8 seeds. This is in case bye weeks run out due to games having to be moved due to COVID-19:

And I could see it allowing more teams with like seven wins to make it and/or allowing a talented division like the NFC West or AFC North to have most of their teams make it. IMO adding playoff teams kind of "cheapens" the accomplishment of making it. It starts turning into an "everyone gets a trophy" type of thing.

They're proposing this more to have TV games/revenue than they are trying to enrich the tournament. What happens if you add extra teams, and the big-name QB gets sick in one of these throw-away games, are we going to delay the rest of the playoff until March? |
