Play GM After 2 Games

If i all of a sudden woke up as Dave Caldwell in week 3 of this season and realized Gus was still my head coach I would make an immediate call to Kahn and tell him we have to fire this turd and his cherry picked NDST buddy asap. Hand the defense to Kiffin and promote Marrone, we would probably win 9 out of the next 12. Case closed. Then you draft for BAP in the mid 20s next year. Preferably a top guard or safety.

I'd also fire Greg "Jedd Fish" Olson and his bubble screens while I'm at it.
Make the Jags Great Again
Blake Bortles......YOU'RE FIRED!
Dave Caldwell.....YOU'RE FIRED!

I don't get how you come up with the "Sun Screen Scheme" after having so much success with the 80/20.

Further proof that these coaches don't know what they're doing.

I think Left guard,Strong safety,Sam linebacker,Nose tackle and possibly left tackle are going to be biggest needs. Which was my opinion even before this season begin.

No, but he'll be 29 after this season with an extensive injury history, and having a good run game with Yeldon isn't going to happen.

Quote:There are way too many variables for me to answer this question. I need to know where our draft position is, who is ahead of us and behind us, which underclassmen have declared and if any of the players I'm keeping watch of, will be injured before the season ends. Generally, I like trading down, but if I see a premier player on the board that I want, I'd stay put. Right now, my main concern would be changing the defensive scheme. This hybrid 4-3 is not working and I would look for someone who runs a conventional scheme, be it a 4-3 or a 3-4. I believe the players we have would be much more successful in those type of defenses. From there, I adjust by adding in free agency and then, I look to the draft.
one of the other variables would be who is the HC going to be and what schemes does he run? In any scheme we need a LT or 2 for sure

I was under the assumption we'd have a whole new coaching staff and as GM, I'd get to pick who we'd add. In the interviews, I'd ask what schemes they'd want to run, and chose the one I believe would be the best fit.

With an average line Yeldon would have had 1,000 yards last year.

Quote:So, you're Dave Caldwell and you have seen 2 games this season. Let's make an assumption that this tem finishes last in the rankings and will pick first in next year's draft. Now, put away the sheep responses about firing "x" or "Y" That's not what this is about. those things will likely figure themselves out anyhow. What this involves is the overlook at this roster and what changes will need to be made. What I mean is quantity over quality. If there is the chance to trade down and gain extra quality picks, do you pull the trigger? If a couple trades down net an extra 1 as well as a couple of 2's and 3's, is it worth taking the chance on, rather than getting that one dominant guy.

I personally see lots of areas that could be upgraded, and would love  a trade-down scenario. Many spots could potentially be solidified.

I just wonder how close fans see the team  Do they see it like I do, or do they see this team as being a player or two away from being elite.

So, go ahead and weigh in as to where you think this team is right now.

If I'm GM I'm going to ask congress for another bailout.

If I was the General Manager I'd make the Jacksonville Jaguars great again. There would be a stouter defense, to be sure. Our opponents would have a hard time getting through our teal wall of roarness. But folks, I've got to tell you. Quite frankly. We have to make the Jacksonville Jaguars great again. Because if we don't. Well, if we don't. You know, as well as I know. That... they're going to take away the deep passing game. They're going to figure out a way to break through our teal wall of roarness. And they're going to take away the deep passing game folks. Then, then, get this folks, they're going to shut down our running game as well. And, well, let me tell you folks, let me tell you. When the running game is shot. We're all shot. We need to make the Jacksonville Jaguars great again. If we continue to struggle. Well, I guess it'll be time for me to roll up my sleeves and make a few deals with some of these other owners. Because, you know, as well as I know. That, listen folks, we've got some bad deals out there right now with those other thirty-one teams. And I gotta' tell ya.... I don't like it. So, let's make the Jacksonville Jaguars great again.

Based on the scenario that Dakota mentioned at the beginning of the thread,   I think it's probably in the Jaguars best interest to trade down.   Especially,  if Blake Bortles is still considered as the long term solution for the team,  which I believe will be the case,   and a QB in the 2017 Draft who warrants being selected with pick # 1.   After seeing what the Rams and Eagles were willing to give up to trade into the top 2 of the 2016 Draft,  a trade along these lines could position the Jaguars as a major contender for many years to come.    The team already has many key potential building blocks in place.

Keep focusing on the trenches (both O-line and D-line).

Whatever it takes; draftees, FAs, trades. Keep bringing in guys until the lines are finally where they need to be.

Jags still have one of the worst O-lines and weakest pass rush in the NFL. There is never going to be any consistent success/winning until the trenches are much better.

Keep working on it GM.
