Lions fire HC and GM

2nd underperforming team to do this this year. Why haven't we?

Now we are the 3rd least attractive franchise looking for a GM.  #becausejaguars

I agree that it has to be done ASAP. Let Gruden wear the headset for the rest of the season.

What, in your opinion, makes the Texans and Lions jobs more attractive than the Jaguars for a GM?

Cus, the owner wants patience and continuity with staff. Everyone will be back.

Agree. There is 1.1% of a reason to keep marrone. Show some nuts and fire some people so that everyone knows what accountability looks like

Atlanta too. My count was off. Sexier, bigger markets.

I think you mean 3rd. (ATL and HOU)

If you think that a brinks truck of cap room and the vast array of picks we have in this year's darft make us the bottom of the barrel I lack words to state how very much I disagree with your opinion.

for giggles, how would you rate the vacancies thusfar?

JAX: OTC projects over 80M in cap space, 12 picks in the next draft. Basically a build from the ground up.
ATL: projected 25m OVER the cap, with 10 picks in the draft. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are the biggest cap hits, and would need to be traded or restructured to avoid even more cap hit.
DET: projected 13M in cap space, with 14 more if they move on from Stat Padford. only 5 picks in the 2021 draft (1/2/3/4/5).
HOU: projected 10m OVER the cap, with 8 picks in the draft, none before pick 73. Watt will need a restructured deal, good luck if your first move is cutting him. David Johnson would free up nearly 7M.

I would rank them JAX (best opportunity to build my blueprint), HOU (existing roster is decent, won't be able to immediately build roster due to lacking picks, but should be competitive immediately), DET (more cap and picks than HOU, but team has uphill climb to success, won't rule out voodoo curse on the franchise), ATL (good luck!)

I think this may be the first time ever anyone has considered Detroit "sexy"

Mikey, as passionate as I am as a Lions fan, I also try to be objective. Many times it's easier said than done. In the days after the Bob Quinn/ Matt Patricia debacle ended ( thankfully BOTH are gone ), it's easier to be objective than when a season looks promising.

There's no question on this end that Jaguars are better positioned to have success than the Lions in the seasons to come. Here are my reasons:

1. The Jaguars have a good chance of getting a top 2 pick in the 2021 Draft, in a draft that there likely will be a franchise QB prospect to choose from in the top 2.

2. The Jaguars have a much more overall favorable draft pick situation.

3. The Jaguars have a much better 2021 salary cap situation.

The Lions have a realistic path to free up $ 30 million in additional salary cap space for 2021, not even factoring in the contract of Matthew Stafford. Yet, unless the next GM has a strong off-season, it's easy to envision 2021 being a rebuilding season in which the Lions are 4-12 or worse.

But imo Lions with a good HC could be playoff contenders. They have a solid roster and a good QB.

I am a fan, not a cheerleader.

Objective fans are the best.

Agree completely, Stafford affords the incoming GM time to find a successor without the pressure of immediate need. They've got blocks to build on. I remember when Caldwell was first hired, his initial statements was that his work would not be a rebuild, because there was not even a foundation to build upon.

I think one of the other plusses for the Detroit job is that in a few years, that division is going to be wide open. The Burrs are a mess, and appear to be flailing at the most important position on the field; Minny just doesn't seem suited to consistent, deep runs in the playoff, whether than be the fault of Cousins or Zimmer. Cook is saving them from embarrassment now, but no telling how soon the wheels fall off; Unless you think Love is the answer, the Pack are going to be in trouble once Rodgers stops taking snaps. For a new GM, that's a distinct opportunity - not like you're starting off in the AFCW or NFCW, where there's already a solid favorite or two cemented in place.
