Prisco and Kanell on Jaguars Draft needs

#21

We literally just learned the lesson that you can find quality backs late and some people are stumping for another first round RB. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic.

Agreed. It's ridiculous.

He's just fine across the board. He's a decent, but not great blocker. He's not fast or agile. The few NFL caliber LBs he faced covered him extremely easily. He's in the 50-75 range on most of the big boards I've seen, and I think that is even a little too high.

Sounds like a Heath Miller, Jason Witten, or a Todd Heap type

That would make him the best tight end the Jaguars have ever had. I'd take it.

If that's the case, why use that high a draft pick on him?  If he can't beat a LB one on one, I'd rather have a OT or a speed WR.

I want to protect Robinson and not wear him out.   Most good teams have more than one starting quality running back.  In my opinion, Etienne would be a McCaffrey type of RB.  One of McCaffrey's great strengths is route running and pass catching.

I think there will be several quality picks at picks #25 and 33.  Etienne is just one of them.

RB is like the one position you actually do want to wear the guy out. Then there's not even a temptation to give them a second contract.

Not to say I'd give Robinson the same share of carries he had last year, but I definitely wouldn't select a RB in the first 3 rounds just to protect him from it either.

I still hope we get Javian Hawkins in the mid to later rounds.

I wouldn't. There is guaranteed to be multiple players a tier or more higher until we get to the 4th round. If we take him before that it would be a need pick not a value pick.

Yes, our 3rd rounder is 65 and he is ranked at least 30 spots lower than that to me. No matter who goes there will be dozens of guys I like better than him left.

It's guaranteed in Upper's opinion.  It's not the consensus of raters.  I checked the first seven rankings of draft prospects that I could find and all have him within the top 65 players which is our pick at the top of the third round.

Oh, of course:

Upper - At least 95

The consensus (except Upper) is a second round pick.  One has him as an early second round pick, but the others have him as a mid to late second round pick.

To me, Friermuth isn’t that much better than the rest of the TEs. There’s Pitts in a galaxy all by himself and then a bunch of decent prospects.

I would hate to waste valuable draft capital (1st and 2nd rounders) on a TE who most likely isn’t better than other TEs you can get in round 3-5.

In the first and 2nd round, there will be tackles, safeties, WRs who all will most likely be higher rated and be able to help Trevor right away.

Yes, I said 'to me' in there. I've been consistent all along that I don't see a game changer in Freiermuth. Even the blurbs on the big boards from all those things you said say something along the lines of that.

There will be players with game changing talent available through our pick at 65 IMO.
