First off, this is wrong. The restrictions have to do with idle power consumption. Which means that if you build it yourself out of purchased components or a prebuilt from a boutique builder, this will never affect you. The rules are hitting Dell, HP, etc. because those companies they can and are expected to measure idle power consumption on prebuilt models, and they never bothered to bring themselves into compliance with laws enacted five years ago.
To be really blunt, anyone who knows anything about gaming PCs, or does ten seconds of independent research, should know already that buying a prebuilt from one of the big name manufacturers is about the worst purchasing decision you can make. |
