He didn't make final cuts and went to the Practice Squad for two months. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Cooter and now Tettleton...I'll ask again: is it not odd that these people go from being QBs to coaching RBs and then become passing game coordinators? Seems like it would be pretty darn impossible to truly be elite at both coaching the passing game and running backs.

But perhaps when they’ve been coaching running backs it’s more of a reading the defence and picking up blocking assignments as opposed to actual techniques on how to run the ball. If that’s the case i would assume thats where it crosses over,

Seems like it would be pretty darn impossible to truly be elite at both coaching the passing game and running backs. At this level it's probably a lot less reliance on introducing new technique/skill and teaching scheme, play progression, and overall approach to the offense. PGC is more of a vocal suggestion box than an actual play designer. It could be beneficial for an RB coach to be familiar with QB coaching or passing game, in that they can bring insight into blitz pickup, leaving pocket/running lanes for QB to escape to, screen plays, what the QB wants from an RB on handoffs, etc. And if a coach is worth a darn, they're gonna be able to coach up their group no matter where the HC/OC have placed them. I think when you're moving from playing to coaching you take whatever job on the staff to get in the door. I'd also argue that QBs probably have the knowledge to know how every offense position group should perform and should have a solid knowledge of how defenses work. So that player to coach would be the one that should be able to transition easier than any |
