These days they can be one and the same. People's politics have become their beliefs which determines their behavior. 

It used to be that values and beliefs showed up in how a person voted. Not so much anymore.

Well I certainly hope they are.

I was responding to your headline- "the DOJ is active against conservative beliefs."  I was simply pointing out- they are not targeting beliefs.  They are targeting people who break the law.  That's their job.
