No man's sky

Very skeptical about how much I'm going to like this game but curiosity/hype got the better of me a few minutes ago so I bought it.

Any thoughts on it yet?

Debating on whether or not to pick it up today on my lunch break. I like the idea and concept. I am hoping it's basically a syfy version of Skyrim at the end of the day but I've scaled my expectations back a bit in that department.

"What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing; Rush in and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king."

Played it for 2 hours and its what I feared so far. The scale is mind-blowing but everything else is fairly meh. Think it will get boring fast.

This is what I'm hearing too. It's such an amazing concept, but seems almost too big for itself.

Kinda knew that the game would be like that. I mean the NPC interactions are generic and combat is fairly meh.

Love the game now though, the planets and scale are mind blowing. When played as a casual exploration game( as its meant to be) its incredible.

For those of you that have played it, how repetitive does the game get? After a few hours of playing do you basically see the same time of alien life that just looks slightly different than something you saw on another planet?

Its a but repetitive at times as most of the missions are basically the same after you've done a few hours of them but they all have slightly different twists which make them worth doing.

Discovering new animals is one of the best parts of the game. Came across an elephant like creature with butterfly wings yesterday and huge man eating dinosaurs too. The variety of looks the animals have is mind blowing but they are all basically the same and interactions with them are all pretty similar.

Its a fun game to just lose a few hours in. Think of it as a space exploration simulation game with small bits of combat added in.

I like it the planets and animals have variety. It's just the main gameplay loop could be boring to alot of people.

It gets fairly repetitive. The gameplay elements of No Man's Sky are pretty weak as you essentially gather materials to warp to the next system and gather the exact same materials in that system to warp to the next one. I may have had bad luck, but I haven't encountered too many interesting creatures and the planets aren't really that different. It's a pretty interesting tech demo of procedural generation, but it isn't all that entertaining to me. I already locked in a trade on Amazon for $37.xx and plan on shipping it out in a couple days.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I watched a few interviews with the creator of the game and I feel like he is missing a potential goldmine. People were asking him if they could set up a home planet or base and he said not really because that would defeat the purpose of the game, which is to explore.

I wish for the online gameplay they would let you do as you please. If some of my buddies and myself want to take over a solar system and set up a city and bases we should be able to. I think it would be awesome to build armies to defend or take over solar systems. An online game with this much depth and freedom would be insane.

Put about 20 hours into the game for the first week. It has so much potential and I absolutely love what it means for the future of gaming. I feel as though the scope of the game, however, was too much for a small development group like Hello Games. Maybe when the next big patch comes out for it then it will be a more complete game, but until then it is more of a proof of concept than an actual game.
