Leicester City EPL champions?
|
Leicester City are now seven points clear at the top of the English Premier League with six games to play and it's looking like they might hold on to win the title now.
If they do it would certainly be the biggest shock since the Premier League started and one of the biggest upsets of all time. I'm not sure there is anything in the NFL to compare it with, because there is more of an even playing field - in English soccer it's almost always the team with the most money which wins the title by buying the best players. I follow Arsenal but yeah, what a season if LCFC can hang on and win the EPL
I got into the Premier League for the 1st time ever due to my son's growing interest in the sport (via FIFA xbox). He's a Crystal Palace fan and I haven't established any allegiance yet. I have to admit, it was a pretty cool season to follow. I used to be negative about the Premier League since teams could seemingly just buy their way to victory by renting players and such. Great to see a low $$ team rising to the top !!
Amazing to think that this time last year they were bottom of the League and a way off safety.
I think everyone (apart from Tottenham fans) are willing them over the line! It doesn't seem that long ago that they were in the 3rd tier.. I remember once they came to The County Ground (I'm a Swindon Town fan), they were 2-0 up with 5 minutes to play so I left... by the time I'd returned to my car, it was 2-2... that's the last time I ever left a game early! ![]() 80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics... It just seems so unlikely.
Martin O'Neill's side was a great Leicester side, but they never looked like challenging for the title. And then along comes Ranieri and they're seven points clear with four to play!
I can't believe Leicester are going to win the Premiership before Liverpool.
Sickening.
5,000 to 1 outsiders.
Just as an example, the longest odds to win Superbowl LI are the Cleveland Browns at 200 to 1. That means Leicester winning the EPL was 25 times more unlikely than the Browns winning the Superbowl this year. Quote:5,000 to 1 outsiders. The closest thing previously to this in professional sports could well have been the 1969 ' Miracle Mets' baseball team. The Mets broke records of futility as an expansion team. They never even came close to even .500 in their first 7 seasons. In their 8th season, they won the World Series. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'd be confident in saying that it will never happen again in my life time.
HA !! When Chelsea went down 2-0 at the half, I just assumed they pretty much quit and let Tottenham win. I found out 5 hours after the game that the final score was 2-2 and LC clinched the league title !!
INCREDIBLE SEASON !!! ....... now I just need to see Newcastle avoid getting relegated. I have very little knowledge but jumped on their team because I do like Newcastle Brown Ale beer and I did a google map of their city and it looked pretty cool. If Newcastle gets relegated, I'll hop over to Sunderland for next season. if both get relegated, I'll go back to the drawing board. My son roots for Crystal Palace so I can't choose them. I also want an underdog that isn't popular here in the US.
Quote:I'd be confident in saying that it will never happen again in my life time. It would seem that way BUT with the talent level getting more balanced this may be more possible in the future than it ever has been in the past. This league is like our MLB. In the past the NY Yankees would win simply by paying the most $$. However, the current talent is so balanced with the influx of foreign talent that lower salary teams have a real chance on competing.
It's a crazy, unremarkable run. There are individual players who make more then the whole Leicester team combined. Good on them.

Or you could follow the Magpies in the Championship next season? They're unlikely to stay down there for long, but it will be an interesting ride!

Go for Southampton (my local team), the way they play is usually exciting to watch, very attacking... Also, keep an eye out for their new signing.. Charlie Austin.. he's gonna get a good amount of goals next season providing he stays fit. ![]() 80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics...
Or you could be a Birmingham City fan and face years of disappointment followed by a little optimism rapidly followed by more disappointed. Essentially it is the same as being a Jags fan
