I think of a guy like Michael Bennett. He didnt do much early on in his career. Really for like the first 4-5 years. Then he caught fire. Sometimes it takes a while. Espcially if they have some ability.

  Even with that many Special Teams snaps,  I'm surprised Ryan Davis didn't get more Defensive Snaps.  Especially,  considering his versatility and the Jaguars not having enough healthy viable options that could pressure the QB with consistency.

Numbers don't back this claim.  He couldn't even best Andre Branch, the guy everyone wants gone.

 

He was low tendered and accepted quickly for a reason.

 

He's decent depth.  If he truly were our "best pass rusher," he would have easily won the job already with Fowler out and Clemons being petulant.  Instead, he's behind a scrub and a cornerback in sack numbers.

 

Glad he's back, but let's not get carried away with what he brings to the table.

I thought Davis had a great opportunity last season and didn't take the next step.

You've got to come with something much better than that.  If he can't earn playing time, that only supports the fact he's not the "best" pass rusher even more.

He signed his tender, but it does not guarantee him a spot on the 53 roster.  I think Ryan will likely show up on a depth chart as the 3rd Leo.  However, he's more special teams and a lightning package inside rusher.  If the Jags get 2 DE/LEOs in the offseason (ie. FA Vernon and a draft pick), I think Ryan's survival on the roster becomes in jeopardy.  I could be wrong...
