Tod McShay 2nd mock

#61

Quote:Most recent mock has us taking Jack in the 1st and Mackenzie Alexander in the 2nd.

However also available at our 2nd round pick, was Dodd, Ogbah, Bullard, Jaylon Smith and Joseph. If that played out, would you select in the 2nd?
Joseph probably

Not sure I would roll with Joseph considering we got Sample and Cyp.

Alexander or Dodd or Ogbah for me.

Alexander for me, pretty easily. He's really good. I think he's on par with vh3 and they're both top ten talents.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Alexander just for the fact that he shouldn't be there when we pick in the 2nd.

Alexander or Dodd or Ogbah for me.
Neither are really proven to be anything but replaceable or upgradable.

It's the same thinking of "we don't need to draft a CB, we just signed Prince Amukamara"

I'm not denying that but pass rusher seems to be a little more important than having a 4th safety.....

Ogbah and Dodd would come in to help the pass rush.

if I could just redo my work and come up with a different result each time.. I could be as inconsistent as McShay.

I keep hearing how Ogbah is actually bad. (I don't have my own opinion of him)

I like Dodd as well.

I think if we're not using #5 on pass rush we can wait til the 3rd or 4th and take a flyer on a guy, since likely with our current Dline a rookie won't see much time or have much impact.

To your point...a 4th safety might be unnecessary but if he is an immediate upgrade to SS, he's worthy of the 2nd round selection.

I've heard good things on Joseph.

My mock has us going Jack in the first and Artie Burns in the 2nd. With the 3rd round being "best available pass rusher, edge rusher, prospect"

At this point 4th and 5th round is depth and competition for O-line and front 7 on D.

I watched the cut-up of Oklahoma St. Vs. Central Michigan and Ogbah looked horrible. Andre Branch-ish in his lack of pass rush moves and stiffness. He had a sack on the last play of the game, but before that he looked completely inept.

At this point, I'm sold on Jack more than I was on Fowler last draft.

Myles Jack in the first will make me pretty content, regardless of the rest of the draft.

Barring any kickers or punters being drafted.

We should throw a party if we are able to come away with those 2 studs.

Based on his mock, I would have traded up to secure Spence since he's available until 36. Coming away with both Jack and Spence would be quite a nice haul.

Jaylon Smith is so dependent on how his medicals turn out, I can't even begin to know where he'll end up. If he checks out, you don't even hesitate to take him though. That said, Alexander at 36 is a nice pick.

Dodd or Alexander. Dodd fills a greater need and several guys like Daniel Jeremiah on the NFL Network love his upside. So he would be my pick, although I don't believe he'll fall to the 2nd. Would be very happy with Alexander if Dodd is gone.

I see no scenario where if there is a legit pass rusher sitting there in the 2md after taking Jack in the 1st that we pick another position.
