4th Quarter

#1

As I've stated in previous threads, I look at the season in quarters and evaluate that way.  Most people on this board predicted a 6-10 season and considered that an acceptable record at this stage in the rebuild process.  Obviously there were some with much higher expectations, but not many.  Here is the breakdown of the season and a look at the 4th quarter.  For those that think that the "season is over", consider the following.

1st Quarter

Panthers 20 - Jaguars 9
- Panthers are still undefeated and lead their division.

Dolphins 20 - Jaguars 23
- Dolphins are currently 5-7.

Jaguars 17 - Patriots 51
- Patriots are currently 10-2 and lead their division.

Jaguars 13 - Colts 16
- The Colts are currently 6-6 and lead their division.

1st Quarter Analysis - The Jaguars were in 3 of 4 games at the end and "shoulda coulda" won at least a couple of them.  Result is 1-3.

2nd Quarter

Jaguars 31 - Buccaneers 38
- The Bucs are currently 6-6 and looking better every week.

Texans 31 - Jaguars 20
- The Texans are currently 6-6, tied record-wise for the division lead, but in second place due to tie breakers (division wins).

Bills 31 - Jaguars 34
- The Bills are currently 6-6.

Jaguars 23 - Jets 28
- The Jets are currently 7-5.

2nd Quarter Analysis - Each of these games were "shoulda coulda" won type of games.  The Jaguars were in each game and competitive in the 4th quarter of those games.  The result of this quarter is 1-3.

3rd Quarter

Jaguars 22 - Ravens 20
- The Ravens are currently 4-8... same record as the Jaguars.

Titans 13 - Jaguars 19
- The Titans are currently 3-9 and a young team.

Chargers 31 - Jaguars 25
- The Chargers are currently 3-9.

Jaguars 39 - Titans 42
- The Titans are currently 3-9.

3rd Quarter Analysis - Each of these games were winnable, but certain factors were involved in the losses, mainly injuries and mistakes. The result of this quarter is 2-2.

4th Quarter

Colts @ Jaguars - The Colts are currently 6-6 with a division lead and coming off of a "rear kicking" by the Steelers.

Falcons @ Jaguars - The Falcons are currently 6-6 and are on a 5 game losing streak.

Jaguars @ Saints - The Saints are 4-8.

Jaguars @ Texans - The Texans are currently tied in the standings, and fighting for a division championship.

4th Quarter Analysis - Two of the four teams that the Jaguars play are fighting for a playoff spot (divisional win).  All of the opponents with the possible exception of the Saints are fighting for a wildcard spot.

Consider this... say the Jaguars win next week against the Colts and win at least one more game against either the Falcons or the Saints (certainly not out of the question).  Let's also say that the Colts and Texans lose 2 of their next three games.  The final game of the season could determine the division champ.

The bottom line is, there are 4 weeks of meaningful football (to Jaguars fans) left.

If week 17 comes down to the division between two possible 6 win teams.....

man....

I do think the clots game is going to be ours. I think Charlie Whitehurst with limited time won't do enough to keep up with BB5 and The Allens.

not sure we can score more than the aints, so the ATL game would have to be the other W.

Matt Ryan has not looked great this year.

maybe....

I think finishing the season with 2 more wins would put this team about where everyone thought it would be....

I'm not sure that saves jobs though at this point.

I think we can potentially win 3 of the 4 games left (don't like the match up against Houston).

But then again, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees, and any other qb with a pulse scare me with this defense.

Exactly on all points.  2 more wins would put this team where many thought they would be.  If the Jaguars and the Texans both have 6 wins going into the last week of the season (assuming the Colts lose a couple) you would have two teams with a losing record battling for the division title.... in week 17.

The season isn't over yet.  The 4th Quarter starts Sunday.

It's hard to imagine the Patriots losing 3 games in a row. However, with all of their injuries plus the fact the game is in Houston, I'm not so sure about that game any longer.

What I and many considered a Texans loss, could possibly go the other way now. Though I certainly hope not.

These past 2 games for Jax were big-time letdowns. There's still a chance, being only 2 games back. But, instead of having a chance to actually jump out to a 1 game lead, now they have to win against both division rivals and hope those teams falter a couple times too.

Jax absolutely must win this game against the Colts. They gotta have it.
