Faster is beneficial for some people/applications. As an example, for me I tend to download a lot of data. Shorter download times are certainly a plus.

For the average person it's not really necessary... yet. I remember a time when a 14.4 modem was considered "blazing speed".

I can see gigabit and above gigabit being useful for cloud gaming or VR. I can see the popularity of that inevitably rising.

I'm actually kinda lucky, I'm the last property the sole provider reaches. The neighbors have to do sattelite and it sucks big time.
