Lemmy Says the State of Rock Is ‘Pretty Poor Right Now’

#21

All I know is that you should NEVER look directly at Lemmy. Doing so will result in a severe [BLEEP] kicking every single time.

NEVER look at Lemmy.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Music is so great, there is absolutely nothing better.

Way way back, a long long time ago, I was listening to bands like Cream, Jimi Hendrix, the Moody Blues, the Stones, Jethro Tull, the Doors, etc.  I know I am dating myself.   I loved music so much, and it seemed like I was discovering something new in it all the time, some new band, or bands that evolved on their own.  And that led me into other musical genres: jazz, classical.   My point is, if you think you are running short of great music you haven't heard before, you need to broaden your horizons.   Explore.   Don't restrict yourself to music that is brand new.  I guarantee you that if you have an open mind, there are mountains and mountains of great music that you have never heard before.   Some of it was written a long time ago.   Just open your mind, broaden your horizons.  Why does it have to have been written last month?   There's a very good reason some music that was written 200 years ago is still being played: it's phenomenally great.  Stupendously, unbelievably, artistic, clever, amusing, entertaining, deeply profound music.

I left rock and roll and went to classical music.  Beethoven, Mozart, and so forth.  You may do something else.  But the point is, open your mind, and allow it to evolve a little.  The idea that you are running out of music is just weird, very strange to me.

The trouble with rock and roll is that it ran out of ideas.   And that is inevitable when you define things in a narrow way: "this is rock and roll, anything else is something different."   If you think rock and roll is in a bad state, that shows that you are ready to move on.   Move on!   Pounding out power chords and banging on drums is a form of music, but can't you get tired of that?   Move forward!  Open your mind!  Evolve!  Look for something better!  Something higher!   Don't be afraid of something new.   It's out there.  Free your mind!

What happened to all the really good music?

Some of what I hear on today's radio when I scan around to different stations has me asking myself that same question, especially when it is on a station that is supposed to be playing "today's top songs by today's top artists".

Artistry and artists in the music genre have been mostly replaced by entertainment and entertainers.

Great graphic, though some would counter with the lyrics of Tutti Frutti or Love Me Do.

Quote:Well using that example, what has Bob Marley done for music lately?  Or any of the bands that I like either?  Either way Lemmy is a pretty cool guy.  And he did have a pretty unique sound when he came out.

Who would win in a fight, Lemmy or God?

Uh... Lemmy?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

So I'm sitting here watching the Palladia channel (for those of you not familar with it, its like a rock concert station, tons of live performances)

And Slash and his new band came out and performed a couple GnR songs from Appetite, and his new singer Myles Kennedy is better than Axl was.. Awesome performance.

Not that rock is necessarily in my wheelhouse, I've always been torn on Axl Rose. A vast majority of the time his voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard to me but every so often he'd sing something (and not be squealing or screaming) and I'd be all like "Well damn...that's what's up!" Truth be told, I held several rock/metal vocalists in the same light...Sebastian Bach is/was the most notorious at this in my mind. Still, color me intrigued...I kinda want to check this out.

Yeah, Axl was never really that good. People hear him now and say he has lost it, but I say he never really had it, at least live. Same with David Lee Roth. He was always horrible. Saw him in '86 and was thinking the whole night "dude, shut up and let Vai and Sheehan play".
