What's a 'unit' of alcohol?

I'd like to know too, since it seems that I'm not drinking enough to meet the recommended daily allowance.

One alcohol unit is measured as 10ml or 8g of pure alcohol. This equals one 25ml single measure of whisky (<b>ABV</b> 40<b>%</b>), or a third of a pint of beer (<b>ABV</b> 5-6<b>%</b>) or half a standard (175ml) glass of red wine (<b>ABV</b> 12<b>%</b>)

The number of UK units of alcohol in a drink can be determined by multiplying the volume of the drink (in millilitres) by its percentage ABV , and dividing by 1000.

Example. one 12Oz beer is 355ml

Pabst is 4.74 ABV X 355 is 1682.7

1682.7 / 1000 = 1.6827 Units of Alcohol
