Evan Mathis cut

Eagles Pro bowl guard was just cut. Stayed away from OTAs because he wanted a increase in salary

Wanted more $$$ and he is I think 30. Weird offseason for the Eagles.

Could see the Bills going after him

I think this sums it up quite succinctly:

<p class="" style="font-size:28px;color:rgb(41,47,51);font-family:Arial, sans-serif;">"Should my team pursue Evan Mathis?" Unless your team is the Ravens, Cowboys or Packers, yes.

I'd take him. But then everyone would complain Beadles is paid too much to be a backup

He's 33.

Making him a short term sign.

Also meaning he's more likely to choose a contender.

Beadles would probably be cut if Mathis signs. It's a pipe dream; he's not coming here. Still, though, it would be awesome to plug Mathis in at left guard for a couple of years while Cann learns, then plug Cann in. Instead, Cann could find himself playing lots of snaps as a rookie if Beadles doesn't improve dramatically.

There's going to be a bidding war for his services, so that $5,5m he was going to get this year in Philly?  That's pretty much what he'll be expecting in a new contract, and he's not going to sign some prove it 1 year deal loaded with incentives.  He won't need to.  There are going to be teams out there who are desperate like the Giants or Oakland.  So, the money is going to be ridiculous, and this team isn't going to pump that kind of cash into a deal for a guy who will be 34 before the end of the season regardless of whether he's a pro bowl player or not.

Guard is not a position of weakness for this team despite popular opinion to the contrary on this board.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I never meant to imply that we should grossly overpay like some of these teams will, was just saying that besides any monetary reasons, it never hurts to add pro bowl talent to your team.

Even if we don't have a huge need for him, I absolutely wouldn't complain about adding him. To say you wouldn't want him at all is silly.
