Blake Bortles

Totally shocked me.  BUT, I can't fault the pick.  In fact, I'm more than ok with having Rothleisberger 2.0!

I like that he can escape sacks and is not afraid to take shots down field.

I'm glad we got a quarterback but I was really hoping for something else with the #3 choice. Mack or Sammy.

Okay, I've chilled out and now recognize this is a pick for the future, and if he's ready this year it's a bonus. If you believe in the guy, you take him. Maybe Cleveland wanted him, who knows?

Quote:I think this is considerably different. Lots of folks had Bortles in the top 5. There's little doubt he'd going to be a franchise QB, the big question is if they couldn't have gotten a better defensive player.

Top 5 QBs? Most didn't feel that any of these QBs had top ten talent. The only reason some thought Johnny would is because of the excitement factor, not the skills.

Quote:So with that logic, nobody could criticize Gene Smith, either.

Anybody can criticize anyone. That's easy, especially on a message board. Doing it logically is apparently quite a challenge for some.

If we get Big Ben 2.0 its a slam dunk. Call him Big Blake.

You need to read something outside of ESPN. There were predictions that had Bortles as the top QB in the draft. True, I would rather have had Mack or Bridgewater but look at what the media is saying about the pick dude. We're far from a laughing stock.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

It's not Bortles' talent compared to Gabbert that makes me see him as Gabbert 2.0, but the situation itself as Gabbert 2.0.

QB no one really mentioned or knew of. Didn't emerge into major top of the first draft conversations till well into the year. Impresses with pro days and combine and interviews. Everyone loves the size and strength and preach potential. All was similar with Gabbert. Despite most thinking it was a little bit of a reach for Gabbert, some had him rated as the top or second best QB based on the previously mentioned traits. And it was a consensus that the QB class was a weak one.

Pretty well matches this situation. Except the QB class, while fairly weak at the top, is thought to be deep.

I'm holding my breath and trusting in it though. So far, so good. I do indeed believe that if he starts early, it'll be because he earned it rather than had it handed to him for being the #3 pick.

If Bortles pans out as a pick, I'd expect his impact to be far more important and meaningful than Mack's or Sammy's would have been.

On Wisconsin.

Can't hate the pick, but a #3 pick not seeing the field all year leaves a sour taste.

I agree, but I think Mack or Watkins are a much higher probability for success than Bortles.

Sounds like Khalil Mack late bloomer didn't see Mack play in college. I personally only watched Bortles play 1 game at UCF which was Bowl game vConfused Baylor. I bet I'm not only one on message board lol
