Do you trust Caldwell to find our Franchise QB?

Reid deserves the bulk of credit for Mahomes and Kafkas only experience prior to this season is as a quality control assistant. Give him a few more years under Reid and he'll get looks though The offense was designed for LF27. Pure and simple. It's insane to me that Marrone is so out of touch with the times, but it is what it is. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Last I checked Bortles was leading the league in int's and turnovers. He is doing the one thing that we can't afford and that is turning the ball over. Yep, the fumbles are the result of breakdowns not entirely the QBs fault. But Blamers goin' blame. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

You're comparing Bortles to Brady and Roethlisberger with a single statistic in an effort to do what? Excuse his inadequacies? Suggest that he's been as effective as they have this season? His name doesn't belong with theirs in any discussion.
When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

He's a complete novice and there is zero indication he would perform well. Now is not the time to hire someone to learn on the job and next year I doubt Marrone will be in a situation to do it either. JBC is currently an offensive coordinator.

That's what we always do, pull someone off the scrap heap and it never works out. I want someone fresh, with new ideas. If I had my way, I'd fire Marrone and hire Jim Bob Cooter as HC. I know. I meant I don't want anyone with OC to be the OC, or a HC with HC experience. I'd take Cooter to be a HC, because it's a step up from his OC position. I just don't want any re-treads. I like to promote guys into new positions and see what they bring to the table. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! I don't fault people who want to hold Bortles' extension against Caldwell, even if I can point to why "I get it." No need to rehash all of that now. However - your second sentence is a little over the top. They are only saddled with Blake for one more year before the out clause in his contract comes up. Eating his salary in 2019 isn't the end of the world. His cap hit for the Jags is 19th in the league in expense, so let's pump the brakes on all this big money talk a bit. There are 18 teams taking a bigger cap hit from their QBs next year. After that - he's gone.
Blake's cap hit is irrelevant. It won't matter at all if they draft a rookie to be the franchise, if they want to keep some defensive players around and plan to dump Bortles in 2020 they can just push money out a bit. My guess is they dump a lot of defensive salary this off-season though. Possibly two or three from Dareus, Church, Malik and Campbell. That's a lot of talent to lose, but also a lot of money freed up. If they can find a franchise QB that'll be fine, though, because they won't have to worry about holding every opponent under 20 points.

I don't think it's irrelevant because it stretches the cap a bit in 2019 and they could use that money to add mid tier free agents for O-line depth and other roster maintenance. Regarding 2020 salary cap health and defensive cap clearing: Church being waived is almost a given as his replacement is already on the roster in Harrison. Dareus makes some sense to cut as he's not really having a major impact on the run defense this season so far. Unless he re-structures - it's tough to justify his salary. Malik and Campbell are likely staying put unless Campbell has a major drop in performance or Jackson has a career impacting injury. Maybe they ask Campbell to restructure, but I don't think they want to move on from him yet. Unless you have the HC running the offense ala McVay or Shanny I think it's better to have an OC who has proven he can run an offense at the NFL level or college and has experience calling plays. The last thing you want is someone totally new to the position winging it when you are in win now. It's not like Andy Reid where he can just pluck new guys into roles becusxe he's such a talented offensive mind and HC.

Dareus is our best defender against the run along with Campbell. Jackson and Jones are the guys not holding up in the run along with our LBs taking bad angles along with Church. You say it's tough to justify his salary bit then you say Jackson will probably stay who makes 5 mil more than Dareus lol. Jackson has always got pushed around against, with all that said I think Campbell, Jackson, and Dareus all stay 1 more year. (11-03-2018, 05:18 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote:Yeah. My guesses on who they keep are based upon Jackson’s value as a pass rushing 3tech and whether Dareus’ impact vs the run is worth his salary next year. I think the team may value Jackson’s contribution on passing downs more than Dareus’ contribution on run downs. Jackson’s run D is important, but secondary to what he brings as an interior pass rusher. I hope you’re right about all three staying put.
