Why do we need a new GM when the EVP is in charge of all player transactions?

I have read about players on other teams being waived/injured. All of the reports about them state if nobody claims the player, he will "revert to IR" on his previous team.

- I was surprised by no TE at the draft too. It was a deep class.
- I didn't know about the "revert to IR" part, is that automatic?

Apparently so because of how those transactions are reported. I never read a report that teams were given the option to activate players they waived with injury designations.

Indeed.

I missed the boat on that one thinking Marquez would be the guy. His being waived/injured was the lone surprise among the early cuts. I don't recall him being injured. Did anyone else here know he was hurt?

He was on the PUP early on, hadn't really played or practiced at all.

Marquez Williams was injured prior to week one of the preseason. Came off PUP after week one, PLAYED in week two (scoring a TD) but was re-injured very recently it would appear - leading up to the ATL game. He was cleared to practice on Monday of this week. Hadn't heard anything since then.

It's a shame.

I think he'd end up being a better fullback than Bohanon, and I think the team is so unimpressed with Bohanon that they may actually use Ellis and other TEs as lead blockers from the back-field occasionally and not use a roster spot for a FB.

If we were really interested in using a TE that way I doubt Tom Coughlin would have drafted a true FB. Marquez Williams had a real shot at making it and literally ran into bad luck in training camp.

Stupid Caldwell never should'a let Tyson walk.

Stupid Caldwell never should've let Tyson walk.

Again, Dave Caldwell is NOT the guy who signs, trades, and cuts players in Jacksonville. Wallbash Real Jaguars fans know that.

I wonder what he does then. Sends out e-mail surveys about job satisfaction?

He offers plenty of input to help Tom Coughlin make good decisions, but Coughlin has final say in who stays or goes tomorrow.

Rivera going on IR isn't surprising considering he's been out like he has, but he was going to be our pass catching TE. We seriously need a TE thread on this offense, and the likes of Marcedes and Koyack are certainly not that.

Sure he does.

He's just been given a boss that has final say in personnel decisions.

New QB and TE next year to go along with a new GM lol

I think Ellis has good size n athleticism, though he did have a disappointing drop or 2. Sterling could be that move guy. 'Cedes is close to the end, here.

Actually, I'm fairly sure that is precisely what Caldwell's job is. Coughlin is there to oversee things and help make decisions, but Caldwell is the one actually doing these particular things. At least that's how I'm understanding it.

Coughlin has final say, IIRC, but otherwise that's it.

There you go. Because Tom Coughlin is the guy who has final say in who stays or goes, he is the one to blame if you don't like any player transaction.

You're not getting how things work here. You see, it's only Coughlin's guys if they work out, but Caldwell gets the blame for the busts.

Just kidding, JW.

All I know is, if we let John Greco get past us on waivers, we deserve to be bad. He could immediately come in and be a starter on this line. I'm shocked the Browns let him go. I guess it just shows how good they are on the O-Line. It must be nice.
