Could be a cat2 going straight through jax, will a single story home built in early 2000 survive the winds. I dont want the roof to fall on me

Any idea why both north and south lanes of 95 aren't only north bound? Seems like it would make sense with the gridlock.

Saw this on digg.com when looking at photos comparing Irma and Andrew. If true, not really a comforting thought for those in south FL. The tropical storm force winds are 65K square miles (about the size of FL) with the diameter being 300 miles. That's crazy pants.

Hurricane Irma has become the most powerful Atlantic hurricane on record, category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale—over 800 miles wide, roughly the size of Texas, sustained winds of over 185 miles per hour for more than 24 hours, gusts over 200 mph... “Irma is anomalous,” says Jim Kossin, an atmospheric scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Centers for Environmental Information. “This is a record-breaker. Unprecedented. Catastrophic.”

Tim deegan showed the red line moved to the left of jax. What a relief.

Depends where you are. If you're east of that red line, you're going to get the worst of it. If you're 15-20 miles west of the eye, it will still undeniably suck, but it'll suck a little less than being 15-20 miles east of the eye.

Here's Andrew vs Irma. Spoiler alert, Irma is the bigger one.

I can't believe I'm up at 4:45 in the morning.

The (maybe) good news is that the forecast track has shifted even further west, so the eye is no longer coming over Jacksonville, it's more over the middle of the state. According to JW's neighbor's cat, this will cause more weakening and we might "only" have a tropical storm come through Jacksonville. Winds in Jacksonville are still forecast at gusts up to 90 MPH. Still, if it will just shift a little farther west, that would be nice.

One thing this whole experience has brought home to me is that possessions are a ball and chain. Ultimate freedom would be to sell everything and live off a bank account and some credit cards.

While a shift further West might be good for Jax, it's essentially a death sentence for Tampa

Anything that goes west of Jax is really really bad for Jacksonville.... If you know anything about hurricanes... you don't want to be on the east side.

True. The NE section of the storm is by far the most dangerous. And it's still looking to be a Cat 2 strength by Jax.
This entire situation is terrible for all of FL. Yet there's still friends in Tampa saying "we'll only get a little wind"
