Looks like Jax may luck out here. Not so much for my hometown of Naples. Don't know anyone down there anymore but hopefully the folks who are will be safe.

This thing seems to keep drifting west. And I've seen a few models that has this thing going so far west that it makes landfall in the panhandle. Which would be disastrous cuz not sure many folks over there are preparing much for this.

Kinda wild looking at the live traffic maps and seeing 75 a big blotch of red almost all throughout Georgia. I know a lot of the hotels in Atlanta are fully booked.

I feel sympathy for these guys on the Weather Channel who have to talk about this 24 hours a day.

Phil: "Big storm, lots of rain, high wind. Back to you, Pat."

Pat: "Thanks Phil. Just to summarize what Phil said; storm, rain, wind. Now on to Bill who's on the beach. Hey, Bill."

Bill: "Thanks Pat. On the beach here there is lots of water making waves. And there's wind too! Underneath my feet is sand which is expected to wash away when the hurricane arrives. Back to you, Pat."

Pat: "Thanks Bill. This just in: homes in low lying areas will flood. So tell me, Phil, is it still windy where you're at?"

Phil: "Absolutely, Pat! As a matter of fact we just had a gust reach 12 mph a minute ago."

It's more like, "This storm is a monster, it's a killer, we're all gonna die." 

And then every politician says the same thing.  "Get out now.  Get out before it's too late.  It's a monster, it's a killer, we're all gonna die unless we get out now."  

Florida has 19 million people.   Where are 19 million people going to go? 

I think the worst case scenario is widespread panic at the last minute and gridlock as the hurricane rolls over Florida.

The hurricane centre is about to leave Cuba as a Cat 4 with 155 mph sustained winds, but should speed be back up to a Cat 5 on its way to Ft. Meyers, FL. Here's a recent quip about where it was at 45 minutes ago...

At 5am EDT, the centre of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 22.5 North, longitude 78.8 West. Irma is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h).  A turn toward the northwest is expected by late today, with a turn toward the north-northwest expected tonight or on Sunday.

On the forecast track, the centre  of Irma will move near the north coast of Cuba today, near the Florida Keys Sunday morning, and then near the southwest coast of Florida Sunday afternoon. - NHC

Any chance they cancel the Jaguars game so the player's can "be with their families"? Or is that only the sham of a reason they gave for moving the Miami game so they wouldn't lose money?

The Tampa Bay/Miami game had to be postponed for safety reasons only. The NFL made that very clear in its statement. Otherwise they would have preferred moving the game to a neutral site instead of changing the date.

The Dolphins are in California to avoid the storm while preparing for their Week 2 game against the Chargers. The Jaguars will stay in Houston a couple extra days before flying back.

LOL Miami's first game is at Los Angeles, so they had to go there at some point anyway.

The Panama Canal might be near another hurricane's projected path next week. Stay tuned.
