If you have a need at QB and think theres a guy who can be a franchise guy you pick him.

If you would take a QB with the 10th pick you should take him with the 3rd IMO if you really need a QB. Either way the GM is hitching his wagon to the guy he believes in.

Not all QB prospects are perfect, if you cant just wait around for one to fall into your lap.

What are you trying to say? In both those cases the player fell because obviously they werent viewed as top end prospects. Level of play in the nfl does not equal how they were viewed coming out of college...

Quote:Carr is in the same line of toilet stalls as Bortles. He has been put on a pedestal on these boards.
I don't think it's just this board. People who follow and write about the draft for a living are putting him in the conversation of legitimate top 5 pick. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

First off,

What are you talking about 'Blanked' for 3 or 4 games????

He had 1 game in bad conditions where he threw for less than 200 and under 50% completion rate.

The kicker is he won.

He took UCF... REPEAT UCF... into Penn State and destroyed them. BTW, the head coach was the Texans head coach that day at Penn State.... Bill O'Brien.

He throws for 25 TD's and single digit INT's a year. Completed more than 63% of his passes each year in a pro style offense.

That is the major thing about Bortles compared to any of the other QB's not named Teddy. He's not being drafted on potential. He's already lived up to potential.

He beat Louisville while at UCF in a pro style offense. Also took command during that game and after being down 28-7 in the 3rd Quarter marched them downfield and won the game. He did a similar task against Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl as a 17 point underdog. When Baylor finally tied the game everyone expected Blake to roll over and play dead. He didn't. Never got rattled (which Blaine did often in big games) and led his team to a commanding lead to eventually seal the game.

UCF won't win 9 games next year playing in the American Conference without this kid. He led them to a 13-1 season. And only loss was to South Carolina who will finish 4th in the BCS standings. Pretty remarkable considering UCF doesn't have a great amount of talent? Is anyone else being drafted from UCF this year? Highly doubtful.

If he would have got the ball back in the 4th against USC they may very well be unbeaten. They haven't played scrubs. Broyles can play ball control time of possession efficient NFL type O. Or he can sling it with the best of them.

The comparisons to Big Ben are identical. He took Miami of Ohio to a 13-1 season and threw for similar numbers in a pass happy offense. Now anyone want to tell me how many 13-1 seasons' Miami of Ohio has had since? Or even winning season?

Ben is a superbowl winning QB and he is elite. Maybe not in the way of Manning or Brady, but I'll glady take a guy like Ben in Bortles.

He's going to be a very good professional QB. He's not Leftwich. He's not Gabbert.

What's funny about saying they are put on pedestals by "this board" is the initial post has a draft analyst putting Bortles as the number one QB.

I didn't see a lot of Carr except for youtube highlights and I came away impressed.

However I reserved my judgement until he played against Southern Cal. His first 'big boy' opponent. He failed miserably. Anytime pressure was on he ran, lost ground, and tried to force a pass. He was rattled and very inaccurate under pressure. Mostly all of his completion percentage was jailbreak screens, and WR middle screens, even shovel passes. Not NFL type completions.

Opposite of Bortles. Bortles can see it coming and still make the throw and take a punishing hit. The difference in the two are night and Day.

Carr is a very good comparison to Case Keenum. IMO. He can come in and sling it, but when those great D's Tee off... He's going to throw that crucial INT.

Shouldn't TMD like Bortles?  After all, he went into Penn State and kicked their as#... Either that, or maybe Penn State's then coach wasn't that good?

There wasn't enough adversity in playing the scrubs of UCF for Bill O'Brien to win. He wins whilst facing adversity.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

You people are weird.

Where did I say that I didn't like Bortles here? You know, you CAN have concerns about the player and still like them.

I know....I know....this goes against how some of you operate, but you can...

Bortles is my 3rd QB choice after Bridge & Manziel.

But I am not sure that I'd take him with a pick as high as 3rd overall.  Prefer to trade down and still get him.

O'Brien was in on the Texans tanking. McNair got him to throw the game so the Jaguars would take Bortles thinking he was actually good because he played well against Penn State. Therefore assuring their divisional dominance over Jacksonville. Sign. Because Jaguars.

Quote:That's all it is - potential. Just like Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger and Colin Kaepernik. They were all drafted higher than their play would seem to warrant due to their potential. Bortles is 6'5" and runs probably somewhere around a 4.8 40. Not bad for a guy his size. Add to that he can make all the throws and you have an intriguing prospect

That's exactly it. Flip the height/weight measurements on Teddy vs. Blake and no one would be taking Bortles ahead of Teddy. Bridgewater is better in almost every aspect of quarterbacking than Bortles (edge on Bortles on deep ball, maybe).

That is, unless you fall in love with that 6'5 frame...

Finally somebody gets it. I keep reading the word "Elite" thrown out there. He's not an elite prospect and shouldn't be drafted that high but the kid seems to have that it factor. Even though he may have a bad half or so he adjusts in game and will find ways to divers.

I have him behind Teddy and Clowney and if they are gone I personally think he would be a good choice

Quote:I just can't get over clowney though, All these reports come out saying he didn't' play hard because he didn't want to get injured for the draft and then coupled with the speeding tickets and the fact that against WI he really was a liability in the run. We need a 3 down DE.  I think I'd rather have Barr if we're going to have someone that isn't going to be an every down person because he seems more solid in the run.

1st bold.) Pls go. This this is just stupid.

2nd bold.) And to further prove your ignorance the LEO doesnt have to be and shouldnt be the best run defender in the world. They rush the passer like its 3rd and 10 every play, and when its a run all they have to do is set the edge.

3rd bold.) Barr is even worse against the run, if someone gets his hands on him hes taken out of the play.

What a horrible post.

I've been watching Barr when I can, but my eyes tell me, he's no Clowney. He doesn't really scare you. Clowney scares people.

I have a ton of respect for Ozone but when he said he could see Bortles going top 5 but not so sure about Top 3 I wanted to jump through the computer and slap him.  If we don't draft Bridgewater, Bortles or Manziel at #3.  My ideal scenario would have either Houston drafting Manziel or Cleveland jumping us to get Manziel, then that would guarantee us either Bortles or Bridgewater.

60% of the Time...It works everytime...
