Why is Teddy Bridgewater is the most overrated prospect on this message board

Quote:How many teams has Locker and Hene lead to the playoffs? Henne has never had a season with more tds then ints, Dalton has dont it his first 3 years, Dalton isnt a elite QB but he is good enough to get you to the playoffs every year while you build your team. I take that any day over picking in the top 10 ever season. You will never win a SB with an Andy Dalton. He was projected as a game manager in the NFL as far back as the draft. This isn't a recent bash of him. The idea is to find a QB that you can win a SB with. And there is more than just Peyton, Brees and Brady that can do that. Newsflash: Finding an elite franchise QB isn't easy. In fact, most teams don't have one. I'd take a decent enough QB that can get you to the playoffs consistently over what we have any day of the week. And before anyone says otherwise, YES andy dalton has been a huge reason that the Bengals have made the playoffs 3 years in a row.

Quote:You will never win a SB with an Andy Dalton. Sure, that's the idea. The idea is also to field a competitve enough team that your team consistenly wins and plays in the playoffs. You could play a guy like Andy Dalton while you look for your franchise QB.

Quote:Sure, that's the idea. The idea is also to field a competitve enough team that your team consistenly wins and plays in the playoffs. Put it this way.... I'll take a QB like Ryan Mallett who may ultimately not pan out, but if he does pan out indeed has SB caliber QB within his reach over a guy like Andy Dalton who projects to game manager type any day of the week. His team has a great defense and he has weapons, Flacco and Eli got the same treatment as Dalton and guess what they won a super bowl.

Quote:Put it this way.... Ryan Mallet hasn't done a damn thing. The fact that he's got an amazing arm doesn't count for much when he can't even light it up in pre-season. Mallet has a long time to go before you can say Mallet > Dalton.

Dalton is not only 0-3 in the playoffs, but he's been ineffective in all 3 games. Thats no accident. He's the kind of QB that can beat bad to average teams in the regular season, but cannot put a team on his back and win when the stakes are elevated in the playoffs.
Quote:Ryan Mallet hasn't done a damn thing. The fact that he's got an amazing arm doesn't count for much when he can't even light it up in pre-season. If you re-read that, I never said that Mallett > Dalton. What I said was Mallett has the kind of tools and game that if he reaches his potential can be a SB caliber QB. He's an aggressive downfield QB. He goes out and makes plays (albeit in college but thats all we have to go on as of yet) I'd take a chance with a QB like Mallett before I'd waste time with an Andy Dalton, Alex Smith or Nick Foles type. They all play the same way. Overly conservative. When they try to play out of character and be aggressive (which doesn't come naturally to them) the results usually aren't pretty.

All of what you said is 100% correct. My point is that a lot of guys can't even beat the bad to average teams in the NFL. Dalton is, IMO, an average to slightly above average QB in the league. Guys like Henne are way below average. Finding guys better than Dalton is NOT easy. Sure, everyone would love to have an elite QB, but it's not easy to find one. Heck, it's not even easy finding a guy like David Garrard.

Quote:In all 3 wild card games....the team with the better QB won those games. - this piece about the 3 wild card games you pulled right out of the commentaries mouth on the post game show. thats a little sad, and thats all opinion based. youre saying luck is better than smith? technically alex smith did work and had a way better game than luck. the reason the chiefs lost is their defense. this game manager stuff has gotten out of hand. it isnt either 1. franchise qb or 2. game manager. there are a lot of different types of guys. smith wasnt a game manager yesterday.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Mallett fell in the draft for a reason. It had less to do with his attitude and more to do with his decision making with the football. Not to mention he had a tendency to lock onto a receiver and force the ball to the guy. Had issues reading defenses at the college level as well.
I don't see him amounting to much, outside of being a solid backup in the NFL.
Quote:If you re-read that, I never said that Mallett > Dalton.Call me crazy but there's a lot more than just whether or not has the tools... Jamarcus Russell and Blaine Gabbert have all the tools - they didn't reach their potential though. I think it would be very foolish to go with Mallet instead of guys you mentioned. With the guys listed here, you know they can get you to the playoffs. Mallet could become a huge bust. He could be worse than Gabbert. He could also be injury prone once he starts taking hits. I could say that with just as much certainty as you can claiming he has superbowl winning potential.

And the comment was made by Phil Simms, ex NFL QB so I think he knows a little bit about what he's talking about. Luck is without question a better QB than Alex Smith. The Chiefs defense >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the Colts defense. I disagree that Smith wasn't a game manager. In the second half when they needed him to make a play to secure the game/ calm the team down, he couldn't get it done. Even up until the very last play on the sideline pass to Bowe, Smith choked on that pass - he threw it too far outside so that Bowe didn't have a fair chance to get both of his feet down in bounds. Quote: A-MEN. I'd love to have an average to slightly above average QB right now. You can keep drafting QBs hoping you hit on one that has some special ability, but when you have a guy that can beat the bad and average teams, YOU HOLD ON TO HIM.

Quote:And the comment was made by Phil Simms, ex NFL QB so I think he knows a little bit about what he's talking about. Tell me with all honesty that you believe a team who lost 45-44, after being up by over 3TDs in the 2nd half, lost the game because of their QB. Please tell me you believe that. If you can say that with a straight face, you to me have 0 football knowledge, zero.

Not to mention he had a tendency to lock onto a receiver and force the ball to the guy. Had issues reading defenses at the college level as well. All correctable/ Coachable. You can't coach up the kinds of attributes that Mallett already does possess. As far as trouble reading defenses at the college level.....if his 9.5 YPA and consistent downfield strikes is of a guy that has trouble reading defenses then I'd really fear him as an opponent if coached well..... Mallett's intermediate game in college was very good. Chunks of yardage at a time. Passes completed in tight coverage perfectly over the shoulder. Quote:Call me crazy but there's a lot more than just whether or not has the tools... Jamarcus Russell and Blaine Gabbert have all the tools - they didn't reach their potential though. Gabbert was unimpressive in college. He did not complete passes downfield on a consistent basis. In fact his completion pct on pass attempts over 15 yards was like one of the worst of the projected draftees that year.

You have me a little confused TMD.
You praise Andy Reid, but he is part of an organization who just gave up a second rounder to acquire the "game manager" Alex Smith. Doesn't that mean that Andy Reid is just setting up the Chiefs for years and years of mediocrity? Since you know, Alex Smith will never win a Super Bowl.
Quote:You will never win a SB with Ryan Mallet. Saying the above about a guy like Andy Dalton and the kind of game he has seems a lot more likely than saying it about the kind of game Mallett has shown in college. Mallett was a playmaker. Chunks of yardage at a time. Dalton is a guy that cannot complete the intemediate / longer passes with any sort of consistency, hence his weak YPA. |
