I see no reason why his response needs to be based on some agenda of signing with another team.  Any consideration at all that maybe, while having been a bad QB, he still wants to get better and reclaim his job? 

 

Of course not, being bad at his job means he's a terrible person and should banish himself from polite society.

The problem is not personal.

 

Gabbert is and most likely never will be a good football player.   His roster spot and cap money can be used towards bettering the team.  If they want to put him on the practice squad for league minimum I have no problem with it.  He's not making a ton of money but his cap money is much more than it should be.

2. Plays Scared: He is the master at the duck and run maneuver.

 

3. Horrible Accuracy. He makes Henne look like Joe Montana

 

4. Bad Decision making: He finished the season with 1 td and 7 ints. A 38 rating. His career rating is a 66

 

5. He is not a leader: Henne atleast has command of the offense. Gabbert looks like a deer in headlights

Honest question: Name me a single QB drafted in the top-3 in the last 5, heck last 10 years who has had to 'compete' for his starting job with another young QB who already has a 3-year headstart on him? If you can't, then I'm wondering what your point is exactly Meister...

 

Listen, if the Jaguars are going to gamble with their very first pick on a QB, and bet the future of this entire franchise on him, then surely you agree that every other QB on our roster(from Gabbert to Henne to Stanzi) needs to know their role from day one: backup.

All I'm saying is that Blaine seems to be the only one in Jacksonville who doesn't know or get that. Ie, this is either a case of ignorance or arrogance, which do you think Meister?

 

Honest questions: Do you think knowing what they know now, that the Chargers would have kept Drew Brees and traded Philip Rivers?  Do you think Tom Brady should have returned to the bench when Drew Bledsoe became healthy?  Do you think Rich Gannon should have conceded the fact that he would be a back up his whole career?

There is no advantage to cutting Blaine now. As of right now, he's the only QB under contract with the team. Henne is the best FA QB available (extremely weak year) and I wouldn't be shocked if some foolish team paid him starters money as a band-aid stopgap. I doubt Caldwell would match in that situation, so keeping Gabbert for now is the best strategy to maintain flexibility. No brainer.

There are FA Qb's that'll probably be taken over Henne. Like McCown. Jimmy Clausen will probably command some curiosity.

I would rather he came out and said I'm fighting for my job than whinging about stuff.

 

At the end of the day it is a pointless issue and he will probably never see the field for us in a regular season game again but if we are carrying 3 qbs next year you could do alot worse at your third/ second string than gabbert

 

if you can fix his issues he would be one hell of a catch. I can certainly see a team taking a flyer on him for a conditional pick and why not

and despite getting all the focus in camp and the majority of the snaps before the season he finished 2013 with a rating of 36.  He was so bad the coaches had to bench him.
